  • The Houthi’s are enforcing their ban on ships headed to or from Israel to enter Yemen’s water territory. They did this as a sanction on Israel because Israel is committing genocide on the Palestinian people. When the US and European countries started bombing Yemen for enforcing their law, they also banned US and some European ships from entering their waters. During the ceasefire they lifted the blockade, and since Israel ended the ceasefire they started banning ships again.

  • The police in my country use a device to break into phones and sometimes there’s a leak of which phones and OSes have the loopholes that the device takes advantage of. Idk if I’m explaining it well sorry. But the situation changes frequently because sometimes new loopholes are found and sometimes google or apple fix the bug that causes the loophole. Those lists only mention android and iOS versions thus with another OS you wouldn’t know if it has a similar bug or not.

  • Capitalism is an inherently unstable system due to the contradictions that define it. Scapegoats are necessary to prevent working class from rising up, and economic conditions in the US have gotten so bad that most people no longer care about sustaining the status quo. So I don’t think the current rise of fascism could have been prevented without a socialist alternative.

Also Biden had already changed the geopolitical landscape when he openly funded an (even domestically) deeply unpopular genocide.

  • Serbian protests had the support of most of the general population. The students faced a lot of state violence as well, but this only made their case stronger and caused more people to join. Protests like these for the most part are a numbers game. The more people join in the safer it is. The US population has been pacified and I see the only way to improve conditions is to agitate and depacify.

So you’re right that the condition in the US are different and that a different approach might be needed, but sitting by and doing nothing will for sure not help. I’m really tired of people on lemmy throwing their hands in the air while less fortunate people are being harmed by your government’s actions. It pains me to see how little people actually care if it turns out they need to actually make sacrifices to change anything.
