United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK sending military transport planes from their Cyprus base to Tel AvivEnglish
12·19 days agoExactly. A military cargo plane landing somewhere doesn’t mean the same as a squadron of fighters.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK sending military transport planes from their Cyprus base to Tel AvivEnglish
611·20 days agoThe cool thing about transport planes is that they aren’t just useful in war. It’s a big flying box. Sure it could be sending weapons or troops, but it could just as easily be sending doctors or diplomats or vehicles for a security team. Or nothing, but will be used to take stuff out of the region.
You already payed for the A400M, and it’s perfectly suited for sketchy neighborhoods like this since it can carry countermeasures. Why not use it?
I heard somewhere that an easy way to try is with cashiers or other staff. You got 30 seconds to chat and if you mess it up you’ve already got an out and can walk away. Just read the room and make sure they aren’t crazy busy of course

If oil was so precious and valuable and important why do we light so much of it on fire?

174·1 month agoWhen your nation falls apart and your city becomes an extensive warzone for years, the main power grid probably isn’t top notch. But the sun works just fine!
If it wasn’t for oil making the middle east insanely rich, imagine what they could do with solar

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you still listen to the radio?English
5·1 month agoYes! There one locally owned station in particular that seems to be thriving. It has no blocks of ads and real DJs. They always seem to be playing new stuff, and they even host small concerts for local artists and guests. They also stream at their site, thesummit.fm
Between them and The Alternation, which is another locally owned station that plays alternative rock, everything else in the area is iHeart Radio blandness. You know the type. Constant ads, playing the same songs over and over, morning shows etc
Yep
I read an article saying that as an adult you stop doing as many unique and memorable things as an adult. It’s mostly the same places, people and things. So when you go do different things and make memories, you’ll have more “milestones” in your life

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•What is your most loved game manual moment?English
16·2 months agoI read game manuals and strategy guides like my dad read the newspaper while eating breakfast on summer mornings. They had so much little bits of world building in the writing and design. Reading manuals on the ride home from the store set the tone before you even fired up the game for the first time
Games like Metal Gear Solid had mini comic book sections with loads of awesome artwork for their manuals
Manuals and guides are responsible for making me a gun nerd! Looking at the history and use cases for each one in the game carried over to the real deal. I remember guides for Rainbow Six, Medal of Honor: Frontline and Syphon Filter 2 being full of stuff like that

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is US rail travel so expensive?English
53·2 months agoIt sucks because trains are great, but money and regulations are the general answer. Air travel gets tons of kickbacks from the government, and most airlines don’t even pay taxes on fuel. Also planes fly on the air but trains need rails, land to put it on and maintenance to keep it running.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I worry that reading through Marxist books would be boring. Are there any fun and exciting ways to study without losing focus or getting bored quickly?English
7·2 months agoI agree! To keep with the athlete analogy that was used earlier, a teacher is like a coach.
You don’t need them really, you could put in all the work yourself and get results. But a good teacher/coach can help you set priorities, avoid common setbacks and keep you on track so you’re getting the most from your time.
Learning something new is never easy enough to not require some effort, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it way less difficult and enjoyable with the right kind of help.
