  • Tied with vinaigraitte salad, because the latter is cheap to make in many regions.

  • I'm vaguely sure the face expressions would still require a lot of redrawing, for which the manga style is particularly optimized. Plus, the detailed clothing would require plenty of animation of its own.

Basically, if it were feasible, someone would probably have already made it.

  • Btw, while I'm here: you might also want to look into eza, fzf, bat, and maybe delta (or icdiff for side-by-side comparison). I'm pretty conservative regarding replacement for classic utils, but these are worth it.

  • Manga's and therefore anime's art style evolved to be drawn quickly and cheaply. A ukiyo-e anime would be expensive as hell.

  • Afaik the manga art style evolved in the first place because it's very economic, particularly with facial expressions, and allows pumping out thick volumes of comics every week.

  • ‘Rollerball’ and ‘Death Race 2000’, both from 1975, are the progenitors of the genre. The first one is based on the screenwriter William Harrison's short story ‘Roller Ball Murder’ from 1973, the second one on Ib Melchior's 1956 short story ‘The Racer’, but the stories are pretty much unknown compared to the films.

Both of these set the totalitarian and corrupt backdrop. ‘The Running Man’ particularly feels like a rehashing of ‘Death Race 2000’ — at least the film does, idk about the novel since they're supposedly not 1:1.

‘The Hunger Games’ also uses the premise of ‘Battle Royale’, afaik.

  • They use different arguments, so unlikely. Though idk if there are wrappers or anything like that.

They're both easier to use and faster, so it's worth making sure to switch.

  • You know that extension cords can have breakers or fuses in them?

  • I've only seen ‘Attack of the Clones’, so I guess I'm a fan of that.

  • Use fd and ripgrep at least. It's not the stone age.

  • Funny how when it's Russia, every Russian must suffer for not overthrowing Putin, but when it's the US, suddenly “oh no, it wasn't me”.

  • Very convenient for quick preparation. When I was in a dorm and didn't want to use the kitchen, I just bought a cucumber and tomato on my way home and chopped them in my room.

Basil also works well instead of oregano. Adds a lot of taste.

I also like to add either sour cream or low-fat mayo. And a bit of soy sauce.

  • Well, it seems that you don't have the internal monologue as a mandatory part of your everyday life, instead using it sporadically as a helping instrument — which also translates to you not using it when reading, for the most part.

Although it seems weird to me that you're using narration for conceptual things, and not ones describing tangible stuff. Since you're a borderline case, you might want to commit yourself to one of the neuropsychology departments, for us normies to study what the hell is going on in your brain.

  • The person who recommended those books said they 'teach how to draw what you see instead of what the brain tells you to draw'. Which is a bit odd, and I don't know if they meant drawing from references specifically, but it kinda sounds like it might help with capturing an object how it should look. Especially since their 'after' example was a detailed drawing of a crow down to the feathers.

I'm actually simultaneously intrigued and a bit wary of these books, since I prefer unrealistic and quirky style and want to develop one like that for myself, but am afraid I might go for detailed looks if I learn to do that.

  • Fun fact: ‘The Harder They Come’ was (most probably) the first English-language film shown in the US with subtitles, due to the thick patois used in it.

  • So how did that work, did every fuel company have a patent for lead additives? Then this means the patents didn't stop any one of them from having these additives, which is the supposed function of patents.

And if any one of them got the exclusive patent, the others could just use ethanol, which didn't happen.

  • The competition wasn't between Linux and Windows, but rather Linux with some dedicated server OSes like Solaris, HP-UX and whatnot — mostly variants of Unix, but idk which ones exactly.
