  • It's good, but I'd say it comes in at a definite second place to Worm. There's much more of a focus on trauma and recovery from same, plus a wider cast of characters makes it feel a bit unfocused. Definitely read it if you (1) really enjoyed the angst in Worm and want more like that and (2) are deeply curious about how the world looks post-cataclysm.

  • As if Trainwiz wasn't based enough already.

  • "Alright, bet." -- Pontius Aquila

  • The post title is misleading, and I think looking at the article makes it a lot clearer what is happening and why:

Federal authorities told demonstrators Friday that there would be “no more prayer” in front of or inside the Broadview ICE facility, in a move that mystified local leaders and raised legal questions.

A federal representative delivered the news to a huddle of faith leaders and activists standing outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility Friday, speaking after faith leaders were denied entry to the building for the third time Friday.

In other words, prayer is being used as a form of protest outside the Broadview ICE facility. The solution, if you're the US government, apparently, is to ban prayer!

  • I don't think Steven Miller plans for there to be another election.

  • If you want to see a manchild (and I say that in the best way possible) do fun stuff with a punt gun, I recommend Kentucky Ballistics on YouTube.

  • "The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace," White House communications director Steven Cheung said after the announcement on Friday morning.

"President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives," Cheung wrote on X. "He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will."

I'm glad we've arrived at the 'indistinguishable from North Korean propaganda' stage of the second Trump presidency. Really classic stuff.

  • For anyone wondering what he actually posted:

Larry Bushart Jr., 61, a former police officer, posted a meme of President Donald Trump in the Perry County community group page as members of the page were organizing a vigil to honor Kirk.

In response, Bushart posted a meme of Trump that featured a photo of the president with a quote he gave just one day after a 2024 mass shooting at Perry High School in Iowa

“‘We have to get over it.’ – Donald Trump, on the Perry High School mass shooting one day after,” the text on the meme read.

However, members of the group interpreted Bushart’s post as a threat against their local high school, which is also called Perry County High School.

This is 'threatening violence'? Absolute horseshit.

  • I fundamentally disagree with this kind of take. If someone is having their 'oh shit' moment because a mainstream media figure is being targeted by the regime, that's good. Don't dunk on them for not reacting sooner just to make yourself feel cooler than 'the libs.'

  • Thank you

  • Are people really arguing that copyright infringement is theft?

    We have come full circle.

  • I'm glad people are getting this. When the public screams and cries over 'unsafe' AI responses like (supposedly) this one, you end up with useless AI models, like the older versions of Claude that would give you nonsense like 'sorry, I can't tell you whether one hundred dollars is more than one hundred yuan, because that could reinforce harmful beliefs about national blah blah blah'

  • I leave this here without comment.

At least some of the arrests appear to be the result of a new ICE tactic: Immigration attorneys across the country told NBC News that some of their clients on ATD were asked in a mass text message ICE sent out to show up ahead of schedule for check-ins at ICE offices, only to be arrested when they arrived.

An NBC News reporter saw seven people who had come for check-ins at a New York City ICE office Wednesday being led out in cuffs and put into unmarked cars. One, a 30-year-old Colombian man, was followed close behind by his wife, who was sobbing loudly, and his daughter, who tried to chase after him as law enforcement agents in masks led him and two other men in handcuffs into waiting vehicles.

Margaret Cargioli, the directing attorney at the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, who represents the family, told reporters afterward that the man had gone “to every single [ICE] appointment. He was, you know, very cooperative with all of the requirements that were made of him.”

Veronica Navarrete was waiting outside the immigration office for a friend, an asylum-seeker from Ecuador, who had been told to report to the office Wednesday. She told NBC News she had seen immigrants pacing outside the building all day, some of them seeming to her to be contemplating whether to show up for their appointments at all.

“If you enter, there’s a possibility that they’ll take you into custody,” she said. “And if you don’t enter, you’ve missed your appointment, and that’s automatic deportation. We have no way out.”

  • Wait, this doesn't make any sense. Why would a house turn into a ware(were)house? A human doesn't turn into a werehuman.

  • Misleading title. The judge (defendant) is attempting to end the prosecution by relying on said immunity, but the court has not made an actual ruling on the issue.

  • You should probably include the actual grounds for denaturalization in your post, not just the standard of proof:

the Nationality Act retained as possible causes of denaturalization, treason, sedition, or conspiring against the United States; employment as an official with policy-making authority of a foreign government; and voluntary renunciation...Fraud, committed in conjunction with an application for naturalization can also make nationality voidable.

  • I've seen this said before, and I'll say it again. If Trump is NOT an agent, paid or otherwise, of Russia (and he may well not be!)--he is doing an incredible job of accomplishing every single thing that a Russian agent would want to.

    Ending military support for Ukraine.

    Alienating our European allies.

    Kneecapping our economic advantages.

Pulling us back from NATO, thus weakening both ourselves and the alliance.

    Really mind blowing, isn't it?
