  • City council just voted to buy the police an APC (that they don't have a use for, and if they did it probably wouldn't be good) while at the same time raiding the library reserve funds to keep taxes low

So much frustrating stuff like that going on here lately, and the city subreddit is absolutely unbearable about all of it

  • Two things to say here, one, the "trains ran on time" line was for Fascist Italy, not Nazi Germany, and two, it was never anything more than propaganda made to make people think that the fascist regime was efficient, when in reality it was quite the opposite, it was horribly corrupt and disorganized

The way that "at least Mussolini made the trains run on time" is still treated as fact by so many people isn't proof that terrible people do some things right, it's proof that too many people still fall for literal fascist propaganda

But I suppose it's fitting, because "Trump is going to take out the cartels!!" is also little more than propaganda to support a US invasion of Mexico

  • Oh wow, that thread wasn't around last time I checked (when I made my post in the weekly megathread), it really does go to show how the other thread is just entirely brigading when there's a clear community consensus in the thread you mentioned of how fucked up it all is

Honestly, I think /r/linux is somehow less of a cesspool than the Lemmy equivalent most of the time lol, though at least it so far hasn't had this kind of brigading issue

  • Games @lemmygrad.ml

Nintendo is suing the developers of Switch emulator Yuzu

  • That's not mentioned in this specific blog post, but that's always been one of Vanilla OS's defining features, it's "apx" package manager to install those various types of packages

It's even using Distrobox actually, but the point is to make it simpler to install packages for those contrainers, with the user not worrying as much about managing the individual containers, and not having to memorize the specific commands for each individual distro's package manager

Basically, like the rest of Vanilla OS, the point isn't that you can't do this stuff elsewhere, it's that it's trying to make it easier to do it

  • That's the thing though, SUSE distros aren't Fedora-based, they're entirely separate distros, they just share the RPM package management system

  • OpenSUSE is not downstream of Fedora, however SUSE has the same thing in their terms of use

I'm gonna keep using Fedora anyway, there's nothing else quite like Fedora Kinoite

  • It's why it's really funny that there's a decent amount of libs trying to pretend that Lemmy (either .ml or as a whole) is this super "tankie" thing when they're really the opposite

Like, if the rest of the Lemmy universe was "tankie" we wouldn't need Lemmygrad in the first place
