  • I don’t blame the kid. I blame overly zealous professors who put unrealistic requirements on Turn-it-in scores.

There’s only so many ways an idea can be succinctly expressed. Any other phrasing just becomes obtuse but sometimes students have no choice because some professor when overboard with plagiarism detection.

  • Remember when everyone boycotted apple because of the horrendous conditions at Foxconn? Or people boycotting Lithium batteries because of slave like conditions in African mines? Remember?! Oh wait. No one gave a shit as long as they got their consumer products.

Note: This is NOT whataboutism. This is just a reminder that consumers only care if it doesn’t seriously inconvenience them. Otherwise they always turn a blind eye.

  • It’s not but it can’t be divorced form capitalism either.

A farmer does not produce grain out of the goodness of his heart. He’s doing it to provide for his family’s needs and wants, maybe new clothes for his kids or a new stove, etc. We work jobs to get paid so we can feed ourselves and our families and maybe buy something nice or shiny once in a while and save for retirement.

Production of commodities and services, profit-motive, capital accumulation, If that’s not the basis of capitalism, I’m not sure what is?

  • We’re angry about unbridled end-stage capitalism

Just like with everything in life, there’s a right amount of something and its not zero. Properly regulated free market is probably the best economic system we’ve come up with. I challenge you to come up with a better system.

Its the fact that we’ve voted in greedy leaders and have such lax rules about lobbying and open bribery that’s allowed so much shit to happen.

  • Most “sanctuaries” are more petting zoos than true sanctuaries.

The real sanctuaries have very strict rules about human/elephant interactions and do not have guests “bathing” elephants or even feeding elephants. Elephants are entirely capable of showering themselves. Forcing them to lie down and roll over to accommodate tourists showering them 3x a day is not part of their natural behavior.

Allowing them a comfortable and safe space to retire where they can be their natural selves is the goal of a real sanctuary. The rest of the places are petting zoos for the owners to enrich themselves under the guise of “altruistic elephant care”

  • It’s a mainly with predators that we have an easier time toilet training them. Evolution has killed off those that shat in their own caves because of diseases and bringing food back to a contaminated den will in turn contaminate the food. Whereas horses and most other herbivores live out in the open, move around more and travel long distances to graze.

They are certainly very affectionate birds and great fun to have around.

My only word of warning to a potential first time owner is that they are messy eaters and even messier shitters. They are also noisy AF. I loved their tunes but I’m pretty sure I pissed off the neighbor with their screeching.

Colorful parrot bird is a rainbow lorikeet if anyone is curious.

A long time ago one of these guys found their way into my house. I’m not a bird person so I had no idea what this was either. I thought it was some sort of parakeet, it loved fruits and climbing on people but it had no interest in seeds or biscuits, which I found strange.

I brought it to the nearest pet shop on my shoulder to get it ID’ed and it stayed on my shoulder the whole time till we got back home. I adopted it and we had many good years. I still miss the colorful parrot bird sometimes.

  • Lets not confuse intelligence that something major is going to happen with actionable intelligence where you can preemptively take action to prevent an attack.

Prior to 9-11 there was most definitely increased chatter and I’d hazard a guess that many security and intelligence agencies knew something was going down on US soils but didn’t have actionable specifics that would have allowed them to take appropriate action and prevent 9-11.

I think it was a similar issue with Israel and they must have believed that the worse case was an isolated terrorist bombing and to prepare a typical lockdown and emergency services response and not a massive raid on their territories.
