USAid was pretty good. And our roads are pretty reasonable, mostly.
Where federal taxes are spent was fairly reasonable until this year. Could, of course, always be better. Obviously too much went to the military and the MIC.
They've often (in the 90s) voted against statehood because they're currently exempt from federal personal income tax. I guess my info is a bit dated. More recently they've (non-binding) voted about 56% for statehood.
Benefits of statehood include an additional $10 billion per year in federal funds, the right to vote in presidential elections, higher Social Security and Medicare benefits, increased minimum wage, and a right for its government agencies and municipalities to file for bankruptcy.
This comment chain is the evidence of the opposite. Outsiders act like the country was equally fucked in 2023 and 2025. The tankies think we've always been equivalent to or worse than Russia and China. There are a number of people who just "don't pay attention to politics", which caused our current situation.
To be a bit less flippant, the analogy isn't far off.
Reading terminal instructions that you can easily copy/paste is a hell of a lot easier than watching a video and clicking around menus.
The issues that you're having wouldn't be any easier if they showed in a GUI. Yeah, things with GUI can be more polished, but that's a result of the effort in that product, and not a result.of the GUI.
I sympathize with what I believe is your main point, that Linux people often are condescending and refuse to make things user friendly, whether that's in a GUI or in the terminal. But the terminal itself shouldn't be too daunting.
It's not just the White House. It's also the House and Senate enabling this.
