Hi, I'm also Terencio on mastodon.social and Sergio on lemmy.world.

  • Hey, interesting post, you might not get a lot of engagement bc I think many people only look at lemmy while at work. Personally I think when I post before noon US time I get more European views.

Anyway... uh... besides music I like !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world and !sumo@lemmy.world ... my favorite pokemon are Psyduck and Wobbuffet and Meowth... I'm currently playing Rome: Total War on my phone... I used to read books a lot more, I kind of miss that.

  • Is there like a specific instance of her doing something?

    I've read the following arguments:

    • her humor is bland, Cathy-level stuff. I like !garfield@lemmy.world so I'm not exactly an expert on humor, but fwiw I like her art style and I find her strips funny more often than not. That sort of thing's subjective anyway.
    • she had reddit comics-strip mods delete any critical comments about her. Yeah, reddit sucks, that's why we left, I dunno if it's fair to blame her for that.
    • she supported reddit during the API protests. I kinda disliked her for a while because of this, HOWEVER since then she's done a lot of anti-MAGA comics (most recently like this, this, and this) so I think she's cool bc that's a far more important issue, and I'm not gonna be hung up on reddit forever.
    • in her strip she sometimes makes fun of people who criticize her. I see this kinda like a stand-up comedienne dealing with hecklers, i.e. it's part of the show, and good on her for not taking shit from people. But some people apparently think this is inappropriate. Others assume that her "hecklers" are sexist, insecure, etc and that creates even more defensiveness. Not sure if there's an easy solution to this.
  • Don't feel bad, fam. As far as haters go, these are pretty mild.

  • No use crying over spilt milk.

  • kek this comment was funnier than the strip itself.

  • I saw a meme that kinda explained it, as applied to grief. There's a diagram of a circle representing grief, and the misconception is that the grief circle shrinks. But it never does. The grief remains the same size. What actually happens is that other circles representing good stuff grow around it, and help you deal with it.

  • Those cats were all mortal enemies until they were brought together by catnip.

  • Put it on the menu!

  • Yeah great points there. To summarize / build upon it, there are several variations.

    • the lyrics / visuals are promoting problematic issues
    • the artist is actively a problem but their music/visuals don't reflect this
    • the artist was not a problem in the past when they made their best music, but now they are a problem
    • one member of a band is a problem. (variations: whether or not the others kicked them off the band)
    • the lyrics / visuals were problematic in the past but not any more (variations: whether or not they explicitly rejected that part of their past)

Then there are several ways to engage with music

    • actively speak out against the musician
    • listen without comment if it's played
    • actively play it yourself
    • suggest the music to others
    • spend money on the music
    • buy their merch (t-shirt, posters)

And of course there are various levels of problem behavior. We all navigate our way in this space of options.

  • We need an autocorrect setting: "English > American > Beavis & Butthead".

  • Yeah, great idea!

  • oh yeah np I try to say where I heard them from myself too.

  • Oh yeah I think they say "NiVARna" and now I can't say it the right way.

  • Iamx

Not familiar with it, give it a post and let's see!

  • gotta be a little careful buying cheap boots bc sometimes they're made out of cheap leather that reeks to high heaven. or they're made out of synthentic material that cracks after a couple months. But in general, yes.
