  • Well I usually look past the auto generated answer because that is not 100% accurate. Digging through many forums, I found comments like these which caused some confusion. The common thread between everybody claiming to have FreeSync is that they are running X11. I just thought since adaptive sync/freesync is a hardware feature, if(and it is a big if as I dont think VRR works for them even if it shows as enabled in the X11 configs) these people have it running on X11, maybe there is a way to get it running on Wayland.

    There was this article as well which added to the confusion.

  • Well frankly, I dont actually care much about VRR. The post was only to gather information because I saw some conflicting info. I agree that expecting an implementation of a proprietary spec in open source is foolish and people should be willing to make some sacrifices in exchange of freedom. What I do request is that you dont be ass about it when you recommend DP.

  • In some ways, pushing people towards DP is good because it is a better spec than HDMI for the consumers in general and for the open source community specifically. The issue is that people are too zealous in recommending and pushing it.

    In my case, I dont care much for VRR (Years of playing on crappy hardware have made me somewhat immune to tearing). I was just curious hence the post. Switching to display port is not an option since my laptop has no DisplayPort support whatsoever.

  • Yeah I am aware that DisplayPort has adaptive sync support but my laptop hardware limits me to HDMI. Believe me I would much rather be using DisplayPort

  • My laptop has no DisplayPort. Hell the monitor came with a DP cable as standard but because my Laptop has no DP port(not even through usb-c), I had to shell out for an HDMI cable

  • Yeah I agree that HDMI sucks but unfortunately my Laptop doesn't have any Display Port and my USB-C port doesn't have display port alt mode.

    I have never seen Freesync over HDMI work.

    Is this your experience on all OSes or on Linux only¿? AMD does mention on their website that many displays support freesync over HDMI.

  • Odd. Can you share which application is it that you are trying to install. Maybe it doesn't create a desktop file hence the lack of an launcher in the app drawer¿?

    If so there is a tool called eddy pre-installed to handle .deb file installs. All you have to do is double click on the file.

  • I don't get why the article mentions this as some smart savvy business move. They are putting artificial limiters in place to squeeze money out of people. That is so anti-consumer.

  • The only bug I have to work out is that it doesn't respect the gtk theme I have configured (GTK 2, 3, and 4). Otherwise, seems like a good option.

    Maybe this is because loupe uses libadwaita and not standard gtk4. Libadwaita does not follow the gtk theme.

  • Currently, gnome has moved away from eye of Gnome to Image Viewer/Loupe. The website doesn't have the dependencies though I don't think you should need the gnome-desktop package. Perhaps you can look into it. Just be aware that the app is pretty barebones for now.

    Edit - Alternatively, you could look into gwenview which is normally shipped in kde. That will have the advantage of shipping with a lot more editing options and since it is a more mature(I think is the right word) project, I expect it to have better support for esoteric file formats.

  • What is perez doing man. Verstappen had a slow stop, drove 2/3rds of the lap with a puncture, made an extra stop and had a 10 second penalty. Even after all that, he still finished 15+ seconds ahead of perez. Just how¿?
