  • This is the power of the algos.

    I had two Reddit accounts and one was solely used for gaming. Which started to give me feeds completely different then my more left, progressivy main account.

    I would get these heavy metal videos about Mexican rapists that were deported on the one linked with gaming. (A clear conservative take). Showed Canadians as commies / socialist evil staties. Like dudes face - deportation date - what they were convicted of - murder or rape. It was wild.

    And some of my liberal social main account demonstrated or showed a shit load of Canadian content that linked them with MAGA. And consistently highlighted their crimes against indigenous people. With tag lines of like “they want to talk about what we do - look at what they do”.

    so I’m not even sure if the blue line ticking up is “I hate Canadians” or “they are magats too”

    To be clear - am American - hate Americans - hate social media (Lemmy is my last social hope / account left) am team Canada all the way / Europe all the way.

  • Favorite so far was the guy who was detained for 12 hours - was a citizen - and had no way to show or prove it because they had taken his wallet on the arrest.

    Eventually someone checked the wallet he had and was like “oh shit, guess we won’t be deporting him then”. But they had lined up transport and locations by that point. And were deciding how to manage his possessions.

    Dude could have just been in El Salvador for no reason like WTF mate?

  • I will say in multi day hikes I spot every single wild animal, insect, flower etc. though. Probably was our evolutionary advantage that kept our brains around for all those years haha.

  • For the most part sure. But connection and conversation and intimacy have all improved even in my preferred settings and even my confidence in self of getting things done or remembering things even when on a multi day hike. Which is just tent / walk / water / eat / tent. And no tech.

  • Yeah so any space where a caregiver or worker can get fined huge sums of money for not taking adequate action it should just be illegal for AI to inherit that space then?

    Because when I worked in the psych space if I was told XYand Z - I would need to act or as an individual face 30-100,000 dollars in fines.

    If it’s left to the company you will just see shell corps housing the AI client facing hub. That will dissolve when legal critical mass forms and costs now outweigh the revenue wins.

  • So insurance companies use AI to screen claims.

    It denies a claim for life saving intervention - person dies. Who is responsible for that? Historically it would be the insurance company - and worker. Would it be them or the AI company?

    Psych screening tools were using it to pre screen calls.

    Ai tells the person to kill themselves - who is at fault if they do it. Psych screener would lose their job and their license. What and who is impacted if AI does it.

    QA check on a car or product is passed by AI but should have failed.

    Thousands die before the recall. Who is at fault for it? The Company leveraging AI. Or the AI itself?

  • People already are / have been dying. Abortion care deaths / trans and general population - suicide rate upticks / ICE detention center deaths (52 people last Trump term) with people being grabbed on valid visas now / 1 death already of a Ukrainian last month in a detention center - custody (44 year old) Maksym Chernyak was a stroke / seizure but when you understand the conditions 24/7 light - terrible food and sleep conditions makes sense.

    Medicaid cuts that made it through will lead to deaths. Due to gaps in care.

    Abortion stances will only get worse from here in states and at the federal level for access to medical care on still borns, and general birthing process will be worse.

    NOAA cuts will lead to deaths due to alert notification systems of major storms and tornados. (March has already been particularly deadly)

    ICE interactions and warrant laws being modified for them will lead to more deaths if they ever get reported.

    Food bank funding and other supports have been cut so we will likely see an increase in malnourishment diseases and deaths

    VA benefits and mental health support services are actively being cut. So expect more suicide and homelessness from our veterans.

    Social security cuts will kill seniors - access to care / meals / warmth - home health aids. These will be seen as increases in fall related, medication mistakes, transfer issues, hospital stay illness upticks, complex wound healing (wounds in the elderly require nutrition to heal if poor they won’t heal and tunnel so sepsis deaths) and other related deaths.

    All of these things won’t be clear TRUMP DID IT. But as those statlines tick up. And the average life expectancy and health outcomes of our citizens get worse by the year. It will be because of these cuts. People don’t realize that the death toll is already counting - it’s just that there’s no clear cut bucket to put them in.

  • Can’t get a general strike to work when the majority of utility workers are magats. The algos target the blue collar industry for this very reason. Look at what the conservative / fascist media arms of your own country are targeting very specifically. Its core services for corporate enablement.

    Transportation, construction, farming, police force all fine if we try a general strike tomorrow. Most upper middle class also are magats. So bank services, middle management, accounting and financial CIO / CEO teams all also are not participating.

    General strike happens tomorrow and protesters in the streets will be arrested - people who are Dems or anti fascist will lose their jobs and houses.

    We are in a no win game.

    But I will say it’s tough to have good choices anymore.

    I value people over everything and want a future that has more freedoms not less.

    But like I purchased a pair of pants the other day that can be traced to Chinese camps. And my phone was built by kids. So fuck me I guess.

    I am outspoken of my beliefs to do right by people. So have to contend with every instance of hypocrisy I also exist within. No good choices when the world is built on blood and genocide lol.

    Am not disagreeing with you - and think Tesla avoidance is a proper thing right now. The totals of grievances have hit a threshold for sure.

    Especially if socially conscious. Or preaching those beliefs. And buying anything for status is already an interesting stance. Hope you find some better friends. I’m on the hunt for them myself hahaha. Tough these days.
