  • lmao! BTC derision is always welcome. Monero on top.

  • i still use brave search because they are the only privacy-oriented search to have their own index. Unless someone can correct me. but then they screwed up a beautiful thing with the LLM garbage, so idk if i can stand to use it anymore honestly.

The browser sucks and is bloated. they have some really good ideas in it, but it's mixed in with so much crap.

Also the Google Doc is hilarious.

  • I guess you could say, they shoulda used protection

  • yes but the old school business model of selling access to code without giving someone a full on anal probe in the form of data collection is not bad. it's only because major applicationa became insane spyware that we all had to start screaming about FOSS in the first place.

Magic Earth is doing a great thing. they are giving you a decently private, "Just Werks" maps experience, while still making money to fund their business, which is necessary to make software that is high grade. if that involves proprietary code, then okay fine.

They are giving a great experience to the average user, even someone trying to be private or at least degoogled. I see no issue with Magic Earth.

  • i never thought about this before. honestly i feel as though this would be better than diceware or passphrases:

    • you dont have to type in something 10x as long, so you can get a lot more entropy in a smaller space
    • the mnemonic can be anything you want it to be as long as the words start in the respective letters, so you can make it much more memorable, thereby making it a lot easier to remember very long passwords.
  • I used Piped for a while, but it's always broken half the time or incredibly slow, it was giving me an aneurism. Freetube and never looked back

  • that was amazing

  • they wont say why they wont degoogle and fdroid it. for years and years. something "weird" is definitely going on

  • that's because Cromite is much more tightened down in terms of privacy and security. Mulch is basically vanilla with some hardening patches

  • the Divested combo, based

  • it's the best private daily driver. recommend to pair with something like cromite too

  • Google warns users of these apps that their experience may deteriorate soon. They may "experience buffering issues" or see errors such as "the following content is not available on this app" when trying to watch videos

you can just feel the evil corporate Cheshire grin behind this paragraph

  • it's becoming much much easier every year to switch to OSS alternatives or at least Linux compatible software. There's basically nothing categorical that can't run on Linux, even gaming is making tremendous strides.

  • excuse me what? signal can extract your encryption key how exactly?

  • both have worse UX than Signal. pretty much all except Signal are lacking on this front. OSS developers are allergic to a smooth UX in general

  • Cool, another one of those people that equates privacy with crime. just what we need

  • "Communism is not le bad!!!"
