  • Then try it with a big spoonful of salt.

  • AI agents can trivially send email. I don't know what the solution is, other than to disallow submissions from people who already have a good reputation with the project. Even that's not a good solution, because there really isn't a way to get a reputation that is open to humans, but can't be easily gamed by bots.

  • That's what you're saying but it's not born out by what's being seen with used EVs (other than the early Leafs). Used cars are perfectly usable after 10 years. The main problem with the used market is that there just weren't that many EVs on the road 10 years ago, less than 1% of the market.

  • Unfortunately that's a Tesla ad. But I was wrong. Looks like at least some of the 350kW charging cars take about 18 minutes. Slower than getting gas, but not much worse than a pee and sandwich break every two hours or so.

  • If it helps, my EV technically has a manual transmission. 100% of gear shifts are manual (it only has a single reduction gear).

  • Charge very slowly using a regular plug in (level 1 charger) until you have enough range to get to a fast charger. Or call a tow truck like you would if you ran out of gas.

  • You seem to have last looked at EVs in 2015. At 350kW, it takes about 7 minutes to charge.

  • Batteries only last 5 to 10 years max

Most manufactures offer 8 or 10 year warranties. Batteries are expected to last the life of the car (10-20 years). This is similar to the expected lifespan of the engine, because it's designed that way rather than being a fundamental limitation of the technology, same as contemporary car engine lifespans.

    Electric cars are essentially disposable

All cars are expected to be recycled when major components are damaged or worn out.

Ofc rich people can just charge in their backyard or garage at night, so not an issue for them either.

Charging in your driveway works fine, and you might be overstating the percentage of people who live in apartments and also have a car. Maybe true in your locality but not mine.

I’m not saying that EVs are bad, but there has to be serious investment in infrastructure and batteries need to be cheaper and cheaply REPLACEABLE in order for the poor to be able to adopt EVs

Replaceable batteries make the car cost more, not less, same as engineering in easily swappable engines (some tanks have this, no cars do). The big thing you're not getting is that POOR PEOPLE DON'T BUY NEW CARS. The only thing required for adoption of EVs by poor people is a healthy supply of used EVs.

  • I can't type ctrl-z without reflexively typing bg after, so no joy there.

  • Given that the conventional ship it replaces might carry a couple of thousand tons of fuel, that's still a net win.

  • Normal people don't fix computer issues. They also don't install operating systems, so this is all a bit academic.

  • The high dynamic range 7.1 audio is already on the disc. What we're wanting is a decent stereo mixdown. Could be 128kb mp3 for all I care. Not like I'll be able to discern a higher bitrate on my tv speakers. That should require 86MB per 90 minutes.

  • Donut Lab is Finnish, not American, which helps a bit. But the real point is that is doesn't matter now. There are at least a half a dozen Chinese manufacturers working on solid state batteries. Most of them are further ahead too. Big Oil™ won't be able to touch them, since renewable energy is a matter of national security for China (all their oil is imported).

  • That's it. You're out of the tautology club.

  • They tend to be so frothing-at-the-mouth emphatically leftist that they're indistinguishable from a CIA program to discredit the left. To be clear, I don't think lemmy.ml is a CIA program, but I can't imagine what they'd do differently if it were.

  • Seriously though, this is what break glass accounts are for. Create an account that can access your backups (preferably only the backup system) with a really long password and keep it offline in a safe place. Like a safe. Set up alerting if the break glass account ever gets used.

  • Those two statements aren't equivalent. Feminism is not just about equality (though that's a huge part of it). If your second statement were something like "elevating black people has a place...", they'd be equivalent. In that case, yeah, it could hypothetically go beyond equality into something unjust.

  • ooh, look at mister has-a-cross borehole electro-magnetic imaging rhubarb here.
