  • That's true about their upper atmosphere, but we're nowhere close to being able to capitalize on it (as in, no missions even planned). Closest we've got on paper is an orbiter by the early 30s.

Hopefully in my lifetime we see an upper atmosphere balloon or something. That alone would be unbelievably cool.

  • NASA plans to have a manned mission to Mars in the next 6 years.

  • Venus is significantly more hostile than Mars, so while we definitely want to do more with Venus, Luna and Mars are clear next-ups for manned landings.

While all of Mars is hostile to human life, Venus is also incredibly hostile to equipment, and thus requires a different approach to even unmanned launches.

Current maximum lifetime for any unmanned craft in the Venusian atmosphere (to say nothing of the ground) is only about 2 hours.

  • I agree. I'm big on specificity of language.

  • This is a great take man. Nothing to add but this is a solid perspective.

  • You can move within your country and your experience will be entirely different. You can't in China, because it's an authoritarian hellstate.

I agree that Republicans are authoritarians, and that sucks. I also acknowledge that you likely view hierarchies as inherently authoritarian and that we'll likely not see eye to eye on where to draw lines. Also fine - that's what liberal ideologies want, is that disagreement.

But to compare China positively with the US in terms of authoritarianism is, frankly, a bit silly.

  • My guy, I’m living in a state that tried to arrest a woman for removing an ectopic pregnancy.

Yep, and your state voted for that. My state amended it's constitution to prevent this situation, also through voting.

In China, you don't get that option, because China is an authoritarian state.

Authoritarian doesn't simply mean "bad" even though authoritarianism is bad.

You know what's not a sign of an authoritarian state? An appeals court overturning a bad verdict.

Crystal Mason’s contentious illegal voting conviction must be reconsidered, criminal appeals court says

You should really click the links you use as evidence.

  • What I don’t get is that the current & new members aren’t afraid of some sort reputation damage, and that this consequently will endanger current and new cooperations with the West.

It's very likely these countries see the writing on the wall - their geopolitical importance is hanging by a thread, and they're dramatically losing the discussion regarding the future of oil.

It's better to get in somewhere when your position is strong than after you've already begun to decline.

  • He clearly just meant "theocracy" which it is and makes no apologies about.

    Iran is an illiberal hellhole

  • It seems to me that the US keeps trying to link absolutely anything done by Qassam brigades and Hezbollah and others to Iran.

This is because Iran funds them.

Iran explicitly wants the destruction of Israel and Israel is a US ally, so it makes sense the US would not appreciate Iran funding terrorists to attack Israel.

    It's pretty simple, really.

And by doing so it gives the US an excuse to attack and take control of those countries

This is just nonsense. The US controls neither Iraq nor Afghanistan so its absurd to suggest they'd want to control Iran or Lebanon.

  • This, but unironically.

  • Which extremists in resistance orgs are you referencing?

  • Imagine if everyone in the world assumed that everything that came out of Marjorie Taylor Greene's mouth was official US policy

  • I find it very weird the US is showing such restraint here.

I get it's because of Saudi truce with the Houthis, but the entire purpose of the vessels being there is to combat exactly this thing. Allowing Iran to wage this proxy terrorism against our own naval vessels is not something id have expected.

  • As a dude planning to get a vasectomy this year, I am all for this plan, so long as it includes people who already have children.

  • China is an authoritarian state that had a literal one-child policy until recently

  • What other country has their roads, electricity, water, trade, and police controlled by another?

What other country is blockaded by all of their neighbors (including Egypt and Lebanon, and even Jordan which is just nearby) for 30-60 years of terrorism?

Like there are words, and then there are facts on the ground. It walks and quacks like an apartheid.

If words don't have any meaning to you, then your argument admittedly makes more sense. When you say "apartheid" you just mean "shit I don't like." It's basically the "neoliberal" of Israel lol
