I viciously “edit” the internet as much as I can. I block toxic social networks and have deleted any accounts I had on them. There’s a Firefox plugin that lets you individually block sites in search results so you reduce scraper garbage SEO sites in your results. PiHole, uBlock, and whatever else that is available to block ads, tracking, etc. “-ai” when searching. Use SearXNG or non-big data search tools when able.

News comes from places like AP or Reuters. Not perfect, but better than half-true at best MSM clickbait.

It sucks. It takes work to enjoy what used to be better a decade ago, but let’s face it it’s been steadily downhill since ‘10 or so. I truly miss the “old” web. Yeah, it had its own problems, but it was far, far better and more egalitarian than this war zone of monetization and manipulation we have today.

Psychiatrist and author William W. Dodson, MD, estimates that by age 12, children who have ADHD receive 20,000 more negative messages from parents, teachers, and other adults than their friends and siblings who do not have ADHD.

Maybe this is part of it. ASD/ADHD people being corrected so many times about doing things “wrong” that they have been “trained” to point out or note things that are incorrect. And also, maybe a reason why we get so incredibly frustrated when NT let things slide for other NT people that we feel we’d get in trouble for. We don’t fit the vibe that NT in-group runs on.

7/10. Good job, good family. Just frustrating that it took a lot of stress and worry to get here, especially financially. Finally doing well but all of that is tempered by saving as much as possible due to basically having been poor up until about a decade ago, so even though we’re doing ok it’s kinda hard to enjoy because all of it goes to catching up for not having money for so long. Really sobering to understand that most people will never have the chance to “catch up.”

What's your opinion on Ubiquiti/Unifi gear?

I like them. Got the whole house set up with it. Yeah, big corp IT gear will have security risks. I used PoE setups to not need to run electrical to the WAPs, used an AirMax directional antenna to get wifi at an outbuilding without needing to run cable or a powerful outdoor WAP for mesh or whatever broadcasting my wifi all over the neighborhood. Works great, stable, a bit fiddly to set up but once it's set up it’s golden. I recommend buying used off ebay for all gear except the cloud key controller.

What are your thoughts on apolitical people?

They can’t be bothered to expend the mental effort at understanding the issues and then be placed in a position to do something about it, like vote. Big chance they’re libertarian or closeted conservative, they don’t want to do anything for anyone.

Do you have any evidence that industrial manufacturers are sourcing Pi 5’s as controllers of choice? I think most manufacturers would use proprietary or purpose built controllers meeting required durability needs.

I was raised Christian. Never deeply religious, but had all the bible study stuff, religious school, etc. Religion was comforting.

Then I got older and started seeing the fanboys for who they were. Hypocrites of the highest order. Assholes that armored themselves with being “Christians”. Trying to game the system or to buy their way into heaven, making it transactional. Heaven also seems like a shitty place; an existence locked into worshipping a deity while in a drugged out euphoria and never being able to learn, grow, and experience things again. A “Matrix”-like place. A God that is psychotic, manipulative, and a classic narcissistic abuser. Jesus would probably be a cool guy, but nobody actually gives a fuck about him. A book full of contradictions and other awful things that are constantly rationalized and massaged to mean whatever the needs of the individual might be. Just generally how awful any religion is, how it’s used to control people, do shitty things, and consolidate power and money.

Yeah, if you’re formerly religious, you get it. I’m an scientific atheist now.

Ironically, thanks to modern “christians”, I’ve found myself citing scripture to shitty people who claim to be religious to point out their hypocrisy, idolatry or whatever, and occasionally listening to religious people who point out how awful and un-christian these people are.

The Next Democratic President Better Be Merciless

Quaint of you to think we’ll have one. Assuming we do get one they don’t pull the typical BS of sweeping republican wrongdoings under the rug, kumbaya, can’t we just move forward and let the republicans block all our appointments as usual?

It’s going to take breaking the government and hitting a reset button, armoring it against corruption and billionaires, completely redoing how candidacy, campaigning, lobbying, how wealth and money work in society, and many, many other things work. It literally cannot be a Democrat (or a republican) because no democrat is capable of breaking and rebuilding the system. They are too beholden to party and money.
