  • Very much so but it's the difference in how men and women are treated in a whole range of scenarios at issue here. Feminism specifically tries to address the significance inequity in how women are treated vs men. Just because there are situations where men are at a disadvantage compared to women doesn't change the fact that overall women suffer far greater disadvantages than men.

Discovering someone supports feminism shouldn't provoke a "but what about the situations where men are at a disadvantage?!?" reaction

  • As a guy that was falsely accused of domestic violence and rape, I experienced firsthand the huge difference in how such accusations are viewed. I was assumed guilty, especially by law enforcement, the legal community and friends, neighbors and coworkers I wasn't close with. It was tough, and embarrassing too.

That said, I fully understand that I was the odd case. Far more women genuinely experience sexual assuault and abuse by men and struggle to get the support they need than men that experience what I did... the difference is orders of magnitude. Just because I experienced some unequal treatment based on my gender doesn't change the fact that women disproportionately suffer greatly at the hands of men and awareness and change is needed.

My personal experience doesn't diminish the vastly greater numbers of women that suffer worse.

  • If they have indeed built communication systems into mundane devices that don't need it, they've done it for a reason.

  • I've long thought this policy will ultimately lead to China going to war and where they once again bring home foreign brides for their soldiers. It'll make a war with Taiwan palatable for all their young, single, lonely men.

  • Read a little more carefully...

experience an act of aggression OR be threatened with nukes. The first has occurred... it does not have to include being attacked with nukes.

  • In middle school I rode my bike to school and stopped by a convenience store most days and bought two packs of gum. At school I sold pieces for 10 cents each and selling one pack paid for both, supporting my habit. It wasn't big money but I felt like a genius.

  • While a novel idea, a leap month would throw the concept seasons and therefore agriculture off significantly. Relatively predictable seasons and being able to track our place in it with calendars was a great help to agrarian communities, helping them know when to plant and harvest most effectively.

  • That's nice in theory but reality is if that were happening and people's vehicles battery charge started going down while they were plugged in at home, they'd unplug. They plugged it in because they wanted to recharge for later, not because they want to help the grid.

  • Apparently you missed the part where LG says they plan to weave Copilot throughout WebOs and use it "proactively" to assist users and offer content.

Ignoring the app doesn't keep the AI from spying on you and your household.

  • A 386 with no hard drive was crazy even then. My first was an 8088 (though technically a NEC v20) with a 5.25" and a 20 MB hard drive

  • Thanks for sharing. That makes perfect sense as well.

  • I always wondered about this actually. Why the two radically different pronunciations of "Kansas" between the two states so close to each other.

  • I'm surprised to see so few of us actually. Thought this was more common.

  • Also gotta be careful with many of the "keto" products. Using a continuous glucose monitor to test foods, there are definitely many supposed keto products that nonetheless spike blood sugar and breads seem to be the worse category. Definitely worth researching or you might be paying triple the price and still not benefiting from it.

  • The problem is thinking the courts will support you.

  • This is exactly what I do but it continuing to be a rarity is it's best feature I believe. If it were common then hackers would script for detecting the pattern and I'm not sure it'd be any less vulnerable.

  • It's a term created by Jews to self-identify as being anti-Palestinean. Are you a liar or just stupid? I think we know.

  • The stuff that goes in the bowl has an oil component that floates on the water surface, reducing the amount of odor that can become airborn.
