  • Imma need that Gnocchi recipe k thanks.

  • I'll always upvote this one, because I so want it to be true.

  • No I think what they mean was that we did not discover (or the Japanese, rather) that we have separate receptors on our tongues for umami until fairly recently. We knew what it was, but didn't have a proper name for it.

  • If you like beans, the pressure cooker is your friend, and the best one is German: Fissler.

  • Fries, ok but NOT the stoopwafel!

  • I have a couple of (sane, nice) Afrikaans; now I feel compelled to ask!

  • Found the fellow Dutchie...unless, unless they are Belg!

  • Have an upvote to bring you back up. Looking closely I think you may be right (but I'm not an expert in these things, just do pattern recognition a lot).

  • FWIW, I have multiple things I should go to in the USA coming up, and neither I nor my family are willing to risk it. My two (young adult) children and I have dual USA - EU country citizenship. My wife had a green card when she lived with me in NYC for over a decade, but turned it in when we moved back long ago. These facts (let alone what my posting history is like) are just too much for us. We won't risk it.

It's kind of like a plane crash: very unlikely to happen but you are equally unlikely to walk away unhurt.

  • Thank you that simplifies things. Not sure I want to store everything local, but yeah that's an option.

Although looking deeper into what I found, initially, potentially disturbing about Proton mail, I'm not sure I should rule it out yet.

  • We have two American families in our 'hood whose husbands/wives are well into their 40s (both moved because of the situation in the States, one has a non-binary child). So, looks like it can be done.

  • Hey thanks! Massive list, do you have a personal short list? Main thing is I need lots of storage.

  • Wait what? I was just about to switch to Proton from gmail to avoid giving oligarchs more money and data?

    They really supported the fascists?

  • There is no "EU" passport, only passports of countries in the EU. I'm pretty sure you have to be 18 to attempt to immigrate (although that doesn't stop many teenagers from going for it by working under the table until they can get a legit job to sponsor them, and pls do not think I'm encouraging that!)

  • There are tons of articles in English about the 30% ruling just search for it. There are two official government sites, again in English, but they are kind of dry.

  • DM me I'll send you details.

  • There is zero chance he's kissing the ring. And I agree thinking he would convert Trump would be naive, but I don't think that was it either.

Generally speaking, the last person the orange fascist speaks with gets his attention for X amount of time. He was either doing that about something very specific, or possibly it was more of an intelligence operation, finding out what the fascist's next step around a specific issue is.

Anyway that's based on knowing Alexander fairly well. But, it could also be the other European leaders said to him "hey man, we did our trip to that asshole, now it's your turn!" (the last guess is from my wife, who knows him a bit better/longer than me).

  • Sneaky yes, but naive Alexander is absolutely not.
