  • I have golden handcuffs for now but it's a very large company with lots of products so my plan is to stay as long as I can while keeping my resume up to date. Also experimenting with some business ideas.

Ideally I can do my own thing one day without all this nonsense.

  • That sounds pretty good for business too they should write an article about your idea

  • People are saying no but I think it actually is starting to take jobs.

I'm a software engineer and my company is forcing us all to use AI to write code and we basically just review it at this point and test it then fix any issues.

About a year or two ago there was this big change. They said we are "shifting left". A hot new trend in the tech industry where we eliminate quality assurance teams and instead the engineers test their own code. At the time it seemed odd. Why would I test my own code that I already tested? It seems the shift was to lay off those people so the engineers could take over the testing jobs when theirs are automated away.

Now they are starting to question all the managers who don't write code or use AI tools. They have noticed the managers are redundant now too so I don't think they have much time. My manager is vibe coding like crazy.

We also have product managers who are vibe coding now too. Everyone is just trying to hold on to their livelihood as long as they can. It's like battle Royale of who can justify staying on to manage AI agents.

    It's insane.

And I know people will say that the code isn't good enough but I assure you it is. Because it's all based on our existing code base that was very well written and has high test coverage requirements. It's very good at following well defined patterns. They just pump a ton of money into it and give it more context.

  • I live in Atlanta so they is the city of Atlanta I guess. I got a random fine in the mail and it was from a private company I don't remember their name but the same cameras are all over my town now.

The cameras are in places where people have to drive everyday and the flow of traffic is usually slightly higher than the limit. You can't avoid going by them so you are tracked no matter what. And if you forget and follow the flow of normal traffic you are getting a letter from the company in the mail asking for $200.

  • They have speed and traffic light cameras made by the same companies and they are pushing them out indiscriminately.

Also why should that company get money if someone speeds or goes through a red light? Why do they get that privilege but no one else does? The government getting fines is one thing but a private company is another

  • Everyone goes over the speed limit at some point but usually there isn't a cop there so there is no issue. It's impossible to drive exactly the speed limit even if you wanted to

  • My only real issue with it is that there are a ton of them now and they are privately owned. If the fine went to the city that would be a different story.

Imagine if next they put a sensor right in your car so if you ever go over a limit you always get a fine. Would you still be into that? Would you buy that car?

  • No Bernie was the good timeline. This lady caused this awful mess we have now because she thought it was her turn.

  • That's not true. We have a ton of these popping up in my neighborhood in places where there haven't been issues.

Also they are owned by private companies that pocket most of the money you pay the fine with.

Why do I need 5 of these on my way to work in the morning? That's 5 times where if I accidentally went too fast I have to pay a private company $200. That's up to 10 times a day I am at risk of a random fee to some company. Insane that you want that

  • The camera doesn't make the road safer it makes it more expensive

  • They would remove the camera not the traffic light. I don't think that would cause an accident

  • What theme song do you prefer?

  • The nanny

  • I'm on my second day of driving so I can get home in time for work tomorrow. I am going to be so tired this week lol

  • Why do we need a law to allow this? That doesn't make sense. We don't need a law allowing other new products when they come out

  • Absolutely but I hope they also listen to what he said and realize there is some truth in it. If their executives think like that and they are in charge of making all the decisions about how the products are made they have probably been making decisions based on that flawed knowledge. I feel like they should audit their whole company and see what's really going on if they really don't believe the things that guy said.

  • I actually bought a skin for my dash and when I got a software update it broke and went back to the default. I called support and they had no idea what I was talking about lol

  • I wish I could still make a cool sound with my ev they should add a button that revs the space ship sound up
