  • The only good thing YT Rewind was for was finding out what kind of boring bullshit channels normies watch.

  • System Restore to the rescue!

That said, if you were running Linux even back then, I feel for you. I don't think OS snapshots were a thing yet in 2008.

  • I don't. Those were some rough times, when you didn't know whether or not you'd get the actual MP3, or a recording of a Bill Clinton impersonator selling something. These days it's a lot easier to find direct downloads to the exact track you want, in a guaranteed 320Kbps MP3 or even a lossless format like FLAC.

  • Look: It doesn't matter what you think is and isn't a TV, the fact of the matter is that the target market doesn't have one of these and doesn't care. They've got their $300 65" Hisense from Walmart, and guess what? Those TVs don't have DisplayPort. That's the point.

Now please stop being a pedantic jerk just for the sake of a it and go away.

  • I remember it being a documentary instead of a book, but regardless, I'm embarrassed to admit that my family actually believed in it for awhile, as if a pile of money will just fall in your lap if you simply believe that it will. What a load of first world, white privilege, copium bullshit.

  • Um, I said TV, and all three of these are monitors. Niche monitors at that too, none of them are even in stock.

Furthermore, how many console gamers do you know who have a 55" Alienware monitor in their living room? I did say consumer TV as well, ya know.

  • Hey man, if the vibes aren't right, it's probably AI. Uncanny Valley and shit, bruh. Seems legit.

  • Find me a TV that's both designed for gaming and has a DisplayPort. Hell, find me any consumer TV with the port. Remember that the Steam Machine is intended for the living room big screen, not a 27" gaming monitor.

  • They couldn't tell you, because Republicans don't actually pay attention to politics. They don't care about anything if it doesn't affect them personally.

  • I just bought RGB to VGA adapters for my consoles instead (and S-Video to VGA for the earlier 90s consoles that didn't support RGB/VGA without a mod chip).

It was a lot easier to haul a 19" CRT monitor over a 25" CRT TV, due to not only being smaller, but having fewer circuitry as well since you don't need a tuner. The image was a lot sharper too for obvious reasons.

    <ADHD-induced tangent>

Speaking of which, some of my best memories as young adult involved bringing my XBOX over to my cousins' house, borrowing my aunt's monitor, and bringing it into the living room for some 6-player Halo action. All you needed was two consoles, two copies of the game, two screens, and an ethernet switch—or just a crossover cable if you were playing offline (since wifi on consoles wasn't a thing yet). Four of us would play on the monitor, and the other two cousins would share the TV (cause again the monitor could put out a higher resolution than the TV, so it was better to have the most people on the monitor instead of splitting it 3v3).

It was a lot easier to coordinate and kick ass in online matches, when the team is all in the same room and can see each other's screens. It was the best time of my life and I miss it dearly. I've never had that much fun in a video game since.

  • You guys talking about RoboCop: Rogue City (the one that's already on PC)?

If so, don't get too excited. The game is mostly a mindless shoot-em-up. I was bored in under an hour.

  • Um, I hate to break it to you, but people born in the latter half of the 80s are 90s kids.

Born in '87 but please don't call me an 80s kid. I have zero memory of that decade; can't relate to it at all. Most of my core memories come from being a kid in the 90s (and a little bit of the 2000s). I'm a 90s kid through and through.

Edit: Ah shit, god dammit. Immediately after typing all of this out, I now see what you did there, you clever bastard. I took the bait.

  • Forreal. Having ADHD is so expensive.

  • Same. This comment section is so bizarre to me.

I've always had real trees. I love the smell too much to go with a fake one. And I agree, there's something magical and nostalgic about the whole process of picking out a tree, and tying it to the top of your car to take to your house. It's part of the Christmas tradition.

  • Real every time. I feel bad for the poor tree but nothing beats the smell of a fresh Christmas tree in December.

  • I doubt ICE is even aware of Lemmy's existence. They're more likely spending their resources on the major normie platforms like Instagram and Twitter.

Either way, they can swallow my dick & balls and lick my whole asshole clean.

  • I like that it has a display, as if crows can read.

If it is meant merely to inform humans of its purpose, why not a simple sign instead of a screen?

Or is the screen somehow used to train the birds?
