News@lemmy.world•Automakers could halt car sales in California without delay in vehicle tracking law
12·5 days agoWeird to call this a “vehicle tracking law” when its whole idea is to give drivers the option to turn the tracking off.
FTA (emphasis mine):
The 2024 California law requires automakers to set up a clear process for drivers to submit a copy of a restraining order or other documentation and request termination of another driver’s remote access within two business days. It also mandated that carmakers enable drivers to easily turn off location access from inside the vehicle.

News@lemmy.world•White House delays release of US voting machine study as midterms near
311·8 days agoThe report, produced by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, concludes that voting machines could be further safeguarded by, for example, updating their software, the sources said.
Are voting machines connected to the internet???
I mean, yeah, updating software is nearly always better for security, but why wouldn’t you just run the machines disconnected for max security?

What non-water drink isn’t bad for you? Plain teas and black coffees?
Serious question. My dentist told me this same thing about soda and offered zero flavored alternatives. Like yeah, I could also eat white rice, broccoli, and chicken every meal and live a long, healthy, miserable life.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sweden urges parents to restrict phone use around childrenEnglish
19·28 days agoNo, this is not the issue and the article expounds on that.
The tl;dr is that kids mirror their parents’ behaviors. If a parent spends multiple hours per day on their phone, the kid thinks that’s what they should do as well.
