  • My problem is that waste being unborn next generation's problem. Who are we to demand them to keep guarding our shit? With fusion, the waste is the alive-generation's problem.

  • Fission has the "long (1+ centuries) term storage solution of the byproducts" problem (output is dirty and long lasting). Fusion has no such big problem (output is dirty and short lasting).

I like hyperboles so here: If everyone did fission in their backyard, we'd have a big and long lasting problem. If everyone did fusion in their backyard, we'd have a medium and short lasting problem.

  • I really though you were gonna choose akin because I don't hear that one as often as 10 years ago (and I never used it I think).

I'm a non-native speaker and I use empiric and empirically at least once a week. STEM though, maybe I'm biased.

  • Which word is big there? empiric? akin? or is it grocery? gas? station? middle? Did they edit it out and I missed it?

  • It is freeing really. I used to proof read my comments, then paste in google search to check for easy to catch typos. When AI arrived, I was even putting my text through them so they are more "common tongue" and not my personal shorthands.

    Now I just post it.

  • The games we play are that easy though. Dark souls with eyes = hard, dark souls to an entity which has no eyes, but can read RAM states = easy.

Most singleplayer games (so the opponents are clockwork) are easy to enough to play with heuristics, why do we need a whole ass neural network?

  • They stopped her there (obstruction of the road, the given reason). They were the reason her voice was heard in that second and not later, and lead to the arrest (the real reason).

  • Wishing Trump would die is accepting reality that some people are inherently evil and them being alive has no value. This isn't positive, is it? It's sad as fuck.

  • I mean if he was saving each one liner in a file and running them from the terminal there wouldn't be confusion

  • We found a mathematical function which is good enough to be called universal estimator. Even better, our current computation technology is enough to implement these ideas algorithmically and compute in real-enough time. This will allow us to "do first, figure out later" rather than "hard work first, fruits later" approach.

It's just not magic, so yea we have to find where it makes sense to deploy it and where it doesn't.

Anecdote: I wasn't really going for accuracy (we were looking at hidden layers more than the output layer) but the small model I was working with was able to predict cell state (sick with the thing I'm looking for?) from simple RNA assay data with 80-95% accuracy even with all the weird and bizarre regularization functions we were throwing at it.

For some things, it makes sense. For others, we need more research. For the remaining, this is an apple we need oranges.

  • Dude most people are not able to divide one billion by a thousand. Otherwise they'd see that we could have 1000 millionaires for each billionaire.

    You expect string recall?

  • Is this really your point or are you being sarcastic? Pick one

  • I'm sorry my comment is not deep enough to be his irrelevant to the topic but I gotta ask: Do you know a text editor which is just notepad but remembers the last session when you close it? I just need a scratchpad, even notepad++ is too fancy for my needs but that's what I was using on windows. Now I use kate but it feels like I'm killing a mosquito with a rocket launcher when a book cover would do.

  • So I'm gonna execute the code of someone who doesn't know the first thing about coding on my computer? Great!

I'd rather have AI art and human code.

  • I don't like the tags (end of discussion). = No symptoms here

I don't like the tags and I LITERALLY cannot wear anything man made unless the tags are cut = Symptom right here.

  • but that makes the system confidently wrong, not hardworking.
