  • Thanks, I'll give that a look!

  • I was trying to avoid exactly this tangent with people judging the setup I want.

I'm not looking for a less mobile setup, and I'm not especially budget conscious. I want a gaming PC that can pump out frames to my superultrawide screen on my desk, and I want a gaming PC that I can throw into my backpack and do some light gaming on an airplane, and I want a development workstation that I can take to my in-laws and do a bit of coding while I'm visiting them.I don't want 2 (or 3) devices, because I don't want to manage extra devices that I only use occasionally, and I'm willing to pay a little extra for the convenience, even if I was convinced that 2 or 3 devices would be cheaper.

What I want are reviews comparing the relatively beefy ayaneo/onexgamer devices that seem to do what I want out-of-the-box, vs the big-name devices that I see lots of reviews for, so I know which one I actually want.

What device do you have, and do you have firsthand experience with it attached to an eGPU? Or is this based on specs?

  • The Lenovo ones don't support eGPU well because they (like the other big names) have custom graphics silicone that needs custom drivers, and they haven't bothered to add support for eGPUs to their drivers, although the hardware supports it.

The ayaneo and onexplayer just use the standard OTS amd graphics hardware and standard amd drivers, which do support it.

Idk if the bazzite has found custom foss drivers that add eGPU support to Lenovo devices, and also I'm basing this on reviews a few months old from people who are using the out-of-the-box software, not installing a new OS on it. IIRC someone used the Lenovo with SteamOS and it didn't support eGPUs but it's been a while so I may be misremembering that review, or it may have been a preview or speculation or something.

  • Idk man, you seem to be the one writing novellas crying about obviously facetious comments in a shitpost community, telling people what is and isn't ok.

You may wanna take a look in the mirror to check who is actually the bitchbaby here.

  • I'm not sure I can justify buying so many handhelds given that reviewing PC/gaming equipment isn't my business.

  • Linux Gaming @lemmy.world

Good head-to-head reviews of handhelds that can run bazzite

  • Mildly Infuriating @lemmy.world

Handheld PC reviews only cover Asus and Lenovo.

  • Wut

  • Now my brain just goes "it's all just strings"

Dynamic typing does kinda smell like primitive obsession, now that you've brought it to my attention lol

  • It was a typo, but I also wanted to add that type coercion is not dynamic typing, the coercion can be done statically during compile time, so it could not be the 2nd one, even if it wasn't a typo

  • Dyac

  • That's the tolerance on paper, but the dude was doubting that you actually achieve that tolerance in the field. How can you when (using your supersonic aircraft example) you need to deal with temperature fluctuations more than 100c, not to mention pressure changes and sheer forces, which all deform the part?

  • Use tables for presenting tabular data, not for layout of non-tabular data.

If you'd put it in a relational db or spreadsheet, then tables is fine.

  • Dynamic typing sucks.

Type corrosion is fine, structural typing is fine, but the compiler should be able to tell if types are compatible at compile time.

    1. We don't know the price yet
    2. Not everyone knows how to build a PC
    3. Not everyone wants to learn to build a PC
    4. Not everyone knows how to install a new OS
    5. Not everyone wants to learn to install a new OS

(Talking about OS because I'm assuming they want a console experience, not a windows desktop experience)

  • If you look at the arguments on math forums, you'll see that there isn't just one rule.

It is a convention, and different places teach different conventions. Namely, some places say that PEDMAS is a very strict order. Other places say that it is PE D|M A|S, where D and M are the same level and order is left-to-right, and same with addition vs subtraction. And others, even in this post, say it's PEMDAS, which I have heard before.

"Correct" and "incorrect" don't apply to conventions, it's simply a matter of if the people talking agree on the convention to use. And there are clearly at least three that highly educated people use and can't agree on.

  • My understanding is that it's just trueNAS scale under the hood, and that migrating between the two is fairly painless.
