Papanca@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What book did you read last and what book are you currently reading? Would you recommend either of those books?English5·2 months agoLast book: Children of ruin. I didnt really like this one, while i was in awe of the brilliance of Children of time.
Currently reading a non-fiction book called The genius of birds. I already knew from direct experience how smart birds are, including ones that people perceive as dumb, like pigeons. But this book really gives a different perspective in how birds are complex creatures that adapt to their environments in intelligent ways, and how other birds will instantly copy these novel ways.
My, aren’t you a big kitty!..

Papanca@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why covering our shoulders with a mantle or blanket is so efficient at warming us?English9·2 months agoAfaik there is a specific spot between the shoulders with brown fat that acts as a temperature regulator. As a caveat, i read this in a (scientific) article decades ago.
Even a kind smile or sincerely wishing someone a good day can be enough. You can perhaps do more, but even this can be a support for people, something to look forward to on difficult days
Just be consistent and never give them table scraps. The worst one can do is putting it on an intermittent schedule, meaning; sometimes someone gives them something, other times not. That will make them beg very insistently. If they learn that they will never get human food at dinnertime, then they will probably not beg, or not very much. You can also make sure to feed them their own food around your dinnertime, so that they are satiated and content.

Papanca@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it possible to basically not snore at all?English10·4 months agoAfter a certain age, older people often start to snore. Everything starts sagging, including the soft part of the upper palate.
It’s humans who bred dogs with these kinds of mouths though
Papanca@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you use your blinker in a car?English8·5 months agoSo grateful to everyone in the comments who use them. Thank you all! Where i live most don’t use them. I don’t get why; aren’t these people annoyed when others don’t use the blinker?
Papanca@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do males complain about female-led stories or too many female characters when the majority are still dominated by males?English3·7 months agoOne of the ways i select a movie or series is by watching the poster. That tells me enough about whether it will be about male heroes and (maybe) female sidekicks or mothers in the kitchen. Particularly american ones have a lot of those movies. So, these i will not even try to watch anymore.

Papanca@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•people who know more than one language, are your settings in english or another language?English5·7 months agoEnglish, which is not my native language
Stop comparing yourself to others. You are you, and you can’t possibly please or displease everyone anyway
Maybe he’d like a warm blanket too? Cute pics
Papanca@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something you can't buy ready made, but have to make at home?English5·8 months agoTrue, but it’s an important reason for many people to start to learn how to make their own clothes. It takes effort, but one can learn how to do this. And it used to be a very common skill. With today’s junk on the market, we have a good enough reason to start learning.
