People who have experienced armed conflict are pretty clear that every other avenue should be explored. I can only imagine what would happen if people started taking pot shots at government law enforcement.
I can only imagine, but I am fairly certain that others don't have to rely on imagination because I am very sure there are plans in place to respond with force if anyone were to do that.
I would also guess there are people in positions of power who are just waiting for a reason to escalate things even further.
Peaceful means of resistance should always be exhausted before anything else is considered.

Edit: come to think of it, the Democrats doing nothing is unsurprising. It's been pretty obvious for a long time now that both parties are captured by oligarchs, and now that the Republicans are aggressively serving the interests of oligarchs, the Democrat flavor of those oligarchs are probably on board.
On the other hand the grocers here act like fucking barons, turning the screws on people who have trouble making ends meet. Maybe closer to vampires than barons.
