Cobbled together from various diaries, engraved walls, and inscriptions found in Beardrenched relating to the year 206:
“Get a drink, burning corpse, eat a meal, burning corpse. 206 the year of fire” A scrap of paper, signed Oreb
“Flamingo, flamingo, flamingo.” Scribbled on an artifact made by a child.
“So many children have been seen stumbling around, completely oblivious. Brawls are becoming a common occurrence. Our satisfaction survey numbers are tanking. From the official records of Gay King Prince Charles Administrator of Beardrenched.
“I would have had that stupid bird if Oreb had let me at them. I would have wrestled it down no problem.” Attributed to Porkrollposadist from the Myth of Stimber.
Agree with Doubledee about the population cap. Would be interesting to see if we can maintain the fortress with ca. 200 ppl for a few years. The pop would in theory continue to grow though as children are born, right? Might be neat to see how quickly that gets out of hand.
Spent most of my time this year playing Dwarf Fortress, a Persona 5 replay and Caves of Qud. Just picked up Conquest of Elysium 5 and it is working my brain. Really like the replayability of COE5 with each faction being so unique.
What a year! Seeing the two different outcomes from the Werelemur attack really drive home what makes DF great.
Moving deeper was a great idea and I really like the look of a fortress setup in the caverns.
The thought and effort you put into the training schedules has made Oreb's job so much easier. Seeing some new barracks dug out also has Oreb rubbing their hands together, ready to expand our military further.
This alternate timeline was super cool to read/see. Like Doubledee already wrote, peaking through into how world generation determines the events of a year is exciting.
Might be interesting to think about playing a succession game where two players play the same year and the group decides which save to continue with. Or big brain multiverse stuff with multiple saves/timelines flying around.
Oreb looks down at their armor, ‘Thank Armok we’ve found iron.’ There is hope.
The fortress is off to a great start! That indoor grazing pen and the ‘hopefully’ breeding animal pairs are a big deal. Really looking forward to watching both develop (or fail catastrophically). Overall layout is top notch and your write-ups are a great mix of role-playing and information.
Just regarding saves for both the ascii and graphics version, I switch between the two mid game on steam no issue so I imagine the saves won’t be a problem.
Something we might want to pin down is if we take screenshots with graphics or not. I tend toward using the graphics for them so they are more approachable. However if you’re playing free do what you please.
This is great! I’ve been wanting to play a succession game for a while. I’d gladly take the role of farmer and can take over the succession anytime after the 26th.
Edit: just saw someone already claimed the farmer, but I’m open to anything really.
