I agree, but that requires effort and that's a big no no.
I blame this on the initial sentiment that to make the threadiverse grow it needed content, no matter the quality so people reposted from other places, recycled old content and posted non news everywhere. That seems to be stuck and now we get this instead of content that can actually pull people to the fediverse... And people upvoting anything.
As someone who had to jump ship more than 3 times, I keep saying to think of their accounts as disposable because we don't know if we picked right or when/if the mods/admins/hosts will go crazy.
I must add, the fediverse only caters to those who can host an instance for their country, those who can nurture a community for themselves or those who were used to the internet being heavily usa centric.
I tried bringing some people here but there's nothing for them (I skip a shitload of posts too) so I have nothing to offer for their time. They are not people who post or creative, so repeating the "you can do it yourself" is moot... And stupid.
And then lemmy users love to defend goverment propaganda from those that call themselves leftist and attack those who live there and have to deal with those assholes who are just populists shitting all over their country.
To me it took a while to settle for a better instance (fhmy, then db0, then lemmynsfw, then cafe and I was happy-ish there, still have my account I think) and ended up leaving lemmy for piefed.
Creating an account is easy, being ready to abandon your account while looking for the right instance is hard and even then I still struggle to find anything interesting.
Not that I can remember, only the numerical pad with letters.I think it wasn't a thing because it was about keeping devices practical and portable... But that ship already sailed and sinked so I'd be up for something bulky but practical or just going back to numerical pad with letters.
100% agree, I can just check once a day, skipping basically everything you mentioned + the non-memes in the meme comms and that's it, no need to open the threadiverse again until the next day.
We also need artists and creative people on board, yes, even the ones who draw porn, but the threadiverse users seemed kind of hostile towards many things during the reddit exodus they decided it wasn't a good place.
Wonder if they'd have a different experience now, since most instances have defederated hex, ml and grad, and those were the loudest when it came to brigade and complain about anything sexy.
I have the same complain for danvinci and kdenlive since I just use it for memes and shitposts... Fucking resize the whole project and the render when I import the first media. If I need a different render size I'll change it later but it's annoying having to manually change everything every time.
At least for someone who constantly uses different sizes really makes it hard to like since it's a whole thing for some minor shit.
When OBS' hotkeys work without having to focus that window (on kde), when there's a music player with an UI like MusicBee (love the file explorer because I have my own organization) and updates don't break for who knows why preventing future updates and forcing me to format again (looking at you Fedora and Cachy), then I will fully move to linux.
Oh and when I can install flatpaks wherever I want because I like having some things as portable (like Dolphin emulator).
It’s just the same software and the software isn’t the problem
I disagree, the devs and ml/grad hosts can decide which things to improve, mantain or force into the other instances, I think there were plans to hardcode the ml federation into it (saw it in a post that was removed for a different reason so I hope someone else kept the screenshot) because too many instances were defederating from them. There's also the devs keeping the blocking function half-assed so nobody can fully block ml/grad content.
They claim donations for the Lemmy software are not used to help their hosting of ml or grad, but they have proven to lie and be malicious, so there's no reason to believe them. Also using their software is helping them stay sort of relevant to the fediverse and nobody wants assholes to be relevant.
At any rate, there are already better alternatives that aren't linked to propagandists, transphobes and history revitionists, so why not use something better?
Jumping infront of a train it is.
