  • I struggle with this and it's definitely because of my ADHD. I get round it with games by using WeMod. It's not that I want to cheat but that I just get bored of repetitive fights and time wasting bs. I've just sunk 130 hours into Assassin's Creed Odyssey and it's been awesome. I just set it to infinite health, adrenaline, unlimited oxygen, instant cooldown and one hit kills and just have fun. People who say what about the challenge? Yeah I love a challenge, I just don't like the same challenge a thousand times. Also I've learnt that we ADHD people hate being told we "have to" do anything so WeMod is like a giant FU to anyone trying to tell me how to play the game hehe.

  • "...and in other news, the forum ****cars, an internet discussion group recently classified as an extremist group has been banned. Shrimply Flibbles, the groups moderator said they would appeal the ban and that the cartoon calling for the mass killing of car drivers had not been noticed until it was too late. They said the forum was a place where genuine concerns with mass car ownership could be discussed and that extremist views like those represented in the cartoon did not reflect the opinions of the members of the group. And now the weather..."

  • "Today’s hype will have lasting effects that constrain tomorrow’s possibilities."

Nope. No it won't. I'd love to have the patience to be more diplomatic but they're just wrong... and dumb.

I'm getting so sick of these anti AI cultists who seem to be made up of grumpy tech nerds behaving like "I was using AI before it was cool" hipsters and panicking artists and writers. Everyone needs to calm their tits right down. AI isn't going anywhere. It's giving creative and executive options to millions of people that just weren't there before.

We're in an adjustment phase right now and boundaries are being re-drawn around what constitutes creativity. My leading theory at the moment is that we'll all mostly eventually settle down to the idea that AI is just a tool. Once we're used to it and less starry eyed about it's output then individual creativity, possibly supported by AI tools, will flourish again. It's going to come down to the question of whether you prefer reading something cogitated, written, drawn or motion rendered by AI or you enjoy the perspective of a human being more. Both will be true in different scenarios I expect.

Honestly, I've had to nope out of quite a few forums and servers permanently now because all they do in there is circlejerk about the death of AI. Like this one theory that keeps popping up that image generating AI specifically is inevitably going to collapse in on itself and stop producing quality images. The reverse is so obviously true but they just don't want to see it. Otherwise smart people are just being so stubborn with this and it's, quite frankly, depressing to see.

Also, the tech nerds arguing that AI is just a fancy word and pixel regurgitating engine and that we'll never have an AGI are probably the same people that were really hoping Data would be classified as a sentient lifeform when Bruce Maddox wanted to dissassemble him in "The Measure of a Man".

    How's that for whiplash?

  • I wonder if Assad's Dacha will be far from Yanukovych's. They can swap stories about when they used to run countries.

  • I'd love to know what percentage of the Earth's population would be totally fine with an asteroid taking us all out. I'd be willing to bet it's higher that it's ever been.

  • So I joined Bluesky over a year ago and have only ever posted a single message "Hi". I've also not liked or commented on any posts. Somehow (especially recently) I am getting followed more and more. I have over a hundred followers now. I'm guessing bots? It's the sudden recent surge over the last couple of months that's interesting.

  • This is why I say please and thank you when I use ChatGPT...

  • "how do you envision change happening?"

You're so close to getting it...

  • I do wish we could have grown up discussions about climate change instead of this sort of thing. Governments and large industrial and commercial organisations are overwhelmingly more responsible for climate change than individuals like you and me. We individuals could not be more concerned about climate change already. Everyone wants to pollute less and live more sustainable lives. Our bins have multiplied and we learnt to comply with that. Plastic straws and bags went away and we learnt to comply with that. A lot of us are driving electric cars now or taking public transport and cycling wherever possible. Cities declared clean air zones so only the least polluting vehicles were allowed in them and we're learning to comply with that. There's all sorts of taxes on vehicles that pollute too and we've learnt to comply with that.

Meanwhile manufacturers pollute our rivers and skies and we're all finding out how full of microplastics we are because of them too. How about that self righteous finger spending some more time pointing at them than at us eh? It's just annoying how it's always the end users who gets the blame for not doing enough about climate change.

And while I'm at it and no one is going to read this anyway how about someone with a brain actually spends some time on the branding side of "Climate Change". It's better than "Global Warming" because at least that reduced the amount of people denying there's a problem every flipping winter but it's still dumb. If you want people to understand the urgency of something you have to convey it in the language you use. Called it "Planet Cancer" or "Climate Apocalypse" or "Earth Burn". Anything would be better than "Climate Change" which conveys about as much urgency as a hedge that needs trimming at some point.

(Edit: Looking at the guidelines for this magazine I can see how this post may be a little too negative. If it is I totally understand it getting removed.)

  • Trump claiming he won regardless and trying to create as much trouble as possible is the most likely election outcome. I'm not getting my hopes up until President Kamala Harris is in the Whitehouse having a nice cup of tea. In fact after the last few years I'm not getting my hopes up about anything ever again unless there's absolute proof that it's real.

  • I'm always in awe of people who can draw :) I love that AI gave me a way to experiment that I never would have otherwise. I have other gifts mind you but sadly drawing isn't one of them.

  • Well I can't draw is the issue. I used Copilot to make the panels and then fiddled around with them to make the cartoon. That's why it's not signed cos I'm not trying to say I'm clever or anything lol. It was just a cool experiment that helped me explore some ADHD related ideas.

  • It's getting hammered quite a bit with negative reviews on Steam. I haven't bought it yet and I'm starting to feel that was a good decision. Apparently the balance is pretty awful. They misjudged the term "Recommended difficulty". Some people are describing it as a battery management simulator in a space truck.

  • To be honest, I hadn't even noticed that I was commenting in the "Fuck Cars" group cos I just responded to something that popped up in my feed. I'm not about trying to be disruptive in someone else's house. I was going for humor more than anything. Sorry.

  • You mean you CAN smash on a bus?? Outstanding :)

  • Walking: Can't cover large distances quickly. Not sure why that's even included in this?

Bus: Pollution source whether it carries passengers or not. No service in rural areas. 1 crash = 69 people injured. Pathogen hotbox. You can't smash in one.

Bicycle: 1 thunderstorm = misery. Limited range and can't travel on motorways/freeways.

Car: Only pollutes when you use it. Goes anywhere you want 24/7/365. You can definitely smash in one. Carries big things like a trolley full of groceries or IKEA furniture.

E-Cars etc.: All the benefits of the car plus no pollution. Huge smugness boost.

  • For me it's coffee + environment. If I'm just at home chilling then the effect of drinking coffee is very mild. If I'm at a business networking event, for example, it can really trigger my hyper behaviours. I get extremely enthusiastic, creative and happy.

By the way, one of these business networking meetings I go to is exclusively for business owners with ADHD and I can't tell you how much fun that is!

It's basically 15 people happily talking over each other and not taking it personally and 5 or 6 who didn't turn up because they thought it was another day. We have one neurotypical person there to try and tether the ballons that we are down into some sort of coherent group but it is wonderfully chaotic :)
