  • Here's the deal, if I could snap my fingers and remove all semi-automatic firearms across the US I'd do it in a second. The problem is, the cat's already out of the bag. Some back of the napkin math here, but there are about 20 million AR style rifles in the US. Let's say we do a buyback program that gets rid of a full quarter of those (that's a crazy high number, but makes math easy) for $250 a pop. Just on payouts alone, nevermind the logistical overhead, that's 1.25 billion dollars to make sure that if someone previously had access to 4 rifles on average, now they have access to 3. Not to mention all the other types of semi-auto firearms available like pistols, different rifles, etc.

What we need to do is improve the material conditions for people in their daily lives. It's a whole hell of a lot harder to radicalize someone when they're happy, healthy, and have a bright future ahead of them. Nationalized healthcare, an improved housing market, and sane tax laws in this country will go a hell of a lot farther to reduce gun violence than just making them illegal ever could.

I wish this was an issue we could just legislate a fix for, I really do, but it's a symptom rather than a disease. That's not to say laws can't touch the issue. Sane and fair gun laws can and should be implemented, but on their own they will just drive the issues underground.

  • "ONCE AND FOR ALL!"

  • Ew

  • Except for current or former police officers. They can buy what they like and even sell to people no questions asked.

  • Piss off

  • Have you considered inventing a time machine, going back in time, becoming a general contractor, and then building your house but smaller? Smh, people won't go the slightest bit out of their way to make things better these days.

  • Thanks!

  • Once it's a solid piece I can cut it with a tile saw. That kind of saw can't really cut you, so I just do it by hand. Once it's in the right shape I grind it down through various grits and then polish it with cerium oxide.

  • Glad you like them!

  • Thanks!

  • That one used a piece of petrified wood and blue dichroic glass. That's what gives it the color. I wish I could post videos on here, pictures don't capture the effect very well.

  • Thanks! They are made of stone and laminated glass.

To make them I cut the rock and make a flat face, then laminate multiple sheets of regular glass and one of dichroic glass with UV resin, and glue it to the stone. Once everything is set nicely I shape it on a tile saw, then grind and polish the faces with a flat lap machine and a massive wet belt sander.

  • That's not an assumption, it's a set of reasonable steps. We need batteries, the metals used in batteries are getting harder to find in nature, cars have batteries containing the material we need. Thus we will find a way to recycle the batteries.

I'm all for healthy cynicism, but if there's a shit load of money to be made doing something, people will find a way to do it.

  • I mean, the materials can be recycled. We haven't needed to because of rabid capitalist exploitation, but as the need for these materials grows and mining becomes less feasible they can and will be recycled.

  • When pets go they take a part of us with them, but they're worth it all the same. In the end, all you can do is give them the best life you can and appreciate all the love they give.

    Hug your pets everybody.

  • One of my most surreal gaming experiences was playing helldivers with a player I didn't know. They said they liked the game because it "wasn't political". I was just fucking flabbergasted.

  • God, and I can't say this with my entire chest, fucking dammit. You got me.

  • Floof* auto correct is a scourge.

  • Hey, she's royalty. Royalty of hell, but that's just semantics.
