No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•So why are Indian curries so popular in the UK? (interest in culinary perspectives).
2·3 months agoEach time my family got together (Birthdays, Easter, Christmas, etc) they used to get an Indian takeaway in the evening. I was only 3 or 4 at the time, so they fed me a kids meal earlier (probably in the hopes I wouldn’t pester them & go to sleep).
It always smelled awesome, and I always came down asking to try some. My grandad made the mistake of giving me chicken madras on a poppadom one night thinking I’d hate it… I’ve loved curries since. I remember my family being shocked I kept asking for more.
I’m a massive fan of saucy dishes, but an Indian seems to hit different. It’s the mix of it being a slightly thicker & creamy sauce marinated with the chicken, blended with all the spices, and a slight burning (but not painful) sensation you experience eating it.
I like Chinese takeaways too, but I’d always prefer an Indian if given the option.

World News@lemmy.world•‘Don’t go to the US – not with Trump in charge’: UK tourist with a valid visa detained by ICE for six weeksEnglish
332·3 months agoWhat makes her a privileged bitch? She had a visa, she entered the country legally. In any other non-fascist country this wouldn’t have happened.
But surely she does something, right? I’d love the opportunity to no longer work & still be comfortable, but at the same time I know I’ll get bored. I like working, I just hate that capitalism forces me.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Things ChatGPT told a mentally ill man before he murdered his mother
2·5 months agoWhilst I agree with your points, OpenAI should & must be held accountable.
The entire industry is purposely blurring the line between AI just generating text vs it becoming the fountain of knowledge / general intelligence. It’s becoming common hearing “Well ChatGPT says X” in discussions, and people generally finding it difficult to believe ChatGPT is wrong dispute the tiny warning banner at the bottom. There are people having active romantic relationships with LLMs because they believe it’s sentient.
OpenAI should have implemented safeguards. The fact it was actively fed & escalated his delusions is a significant contributing factor – it told him he’s a target & under threat. It could be argued without those escalations, it wouldn’t have driven him to commit murder.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•DirecTV screensavers will show AI-generated ads with your face in 2026
24·8 months agoI don’t get how this would ever be a good idea.
I would be extremely uncomfortable seeing my face in adverts, even for products I use. I’m already uncomfortable with adverts using personal recommendations based on tracking my web history & habits.
I actively avoid those products in the future, and I can only see this alienating their marketing base further.

They just see an advertisement board mirroring their own racist thought process, and think how it must now be socially acceptable to spew their hatred around.

42·8 months agoWe gain by generating counter-slop? Wtf are you on about.
Anybody with a half a braincell can see the detrimental impact AI is having on social media & internet content generally. It’s not astro turfing, it’s just constantly dealing with generated nonsense that’s causing the hate.
People who are more susceptible to manipulation, which unfortunately seems to be right-leaning folks, seem to fall victim into believing & spreading it the most. They rarely do any form of fact checking.

215·9 months agoSorry but the 35% who didn’t vote, knowing the threat of Trump becoming president again was looming, are no different than those who voted Republican.
The whole world remember his first presidential term. And we all saw the Project 2025 playbook. The US is in a mess of its own creation.
As a Brit, I too have lost trust in Americans unless proved otherwise.

I’m assuming this is out of the Project 2025 playbook somewhere.

If they’re anything like my company’s executive team, they’re using AI to make their decisions too. They’re being spoonfed the issue isn’t AI underperforming, it’s you.
They’ll soon fire you first before capitulate on the notion their AI implementation sucks.
