Keith sucks. Don't be like Keith

  • I'm confused, what does a distaste for "objective" reality even mean?

  • Ha! Get fucked!

  • Ah ok, that makes a lot of sense.

Thank you for taking the time to construct such a helpful comment.

  • I keep seeing posts pop up that I relate to, then I look down and it's from an ADHD community. Either these are experiences everyone has... Or I have undiagnosed ADHD

  • As a Brit, it's comforting to know that other countries are also sliding towards fascism. At least we won't be alone!

    Edit: /s

  • Jellyfin is A-ok for the tech illiterate. I actually think it might be easier to navigate and use because it's a bit more simple than Plex.

  • Yep

  • They're not false, but they don't show the whole picture, as one paragraph seldom can.

If you are referring the action in Runcorn, of which they are said to have "stormed, scaled, and occupied" the premises of the military equipment manufacturer at 4.30am, I wouldn't say that counts as violence. I would say that violence is typically considered harm to a person or people, not windows and drones.

  • We have 'freedom of expression' as outlined in the 1998 Human Rights Act. The HRA says that we are free to express ourselves as we see fit so long as it is within the confines of the law.

We have relatively strong hate speech laws as outlined in the 1986 Public Order Act, which makes it an offense to "[make] threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviours that causes, or is likely to cause, another person harassment, alarm or distress" and "language that encourages terrorism".

Recently a non-violent pro-Palestine, activist group (Palestine Action) was prescribed as a terrorist group, making it illegal to support any of their actions.

  • You can use a VPN to negate this check. For now...

  • I don't see the issue here, it says Fast Internet Switch. Why would it lie like that?

  • It has been a while since I used Usenet, so instead of giving you possibly out of date info I will just link to this FYFM section which has way more info than I can give.

In particular I found this guide to be fairly easy to follow.

As for using a VPN: it can't hurt!

  • London is already the third most surveilled city in the world with 73 cameras per 1000 people. So yeah, we're not that far behind.

  • My gut reaction to this article was probably the same as a lot of people here "this is just baby boomers complaining about younger people again" and it kinda is, but it's mostly a targeted parliamentary review into the effects of ageism on the older generation, and I would expect the government to do a similar review on the younger generation, if they haven't already.

I do believe that pinning negative stereotypes on whole generations is wrong. It was wrong when the boomers did it to the millenials, it is wrong when millenials do it to gen z, and it's wrong to go the other way.

Where does all the power and wealth concentrate? Amongst the boomers and older Gen x. Are they all wealthy and powerful? Fuck no! We're all being exploited by the top 0.1% of the population, let's not forget that.

  • Carrie Underwood doesn't surprise me, but The Village People news hurts.

  • Personally, I love to tinker (especially on my main machine) so I don't mind the complexities of setting up neovim. However, I do mess around with a bunch of servers, and I like to edit code on those servers, meaning I am often installing/compiling neovim and copying over my config before I can get to work.

What I am liking about helix is the idea that its default setup has what I need to get started straight away.

I am looking forward to giving helix a go.

  • That's a good enough excuse for me to try it! Thanks.

  • Just out of interest, what are the reasons someone would move from neovim to helix?
