  • This one actually makes sense as cars and automobiles are technically heavy machinery. Thus so, they should technically at all times be operated with a spotter outside of the vehicle at all times.

  • I really hope it does claps TBH

  • During these difficult times...

  • I think the issue was the car its self was not visible enough to the emergency vehicles. Car drivers should be wearing reflective gear and helmets, and the car should be fully reflective.

  • This is fucked and no way something like this should pass.

Also if a cyclist is expected to wear a helmet and high reflection vest then car drivers should be required to do the same, windows should also be completely down with no music playing what so ever. If you go a cellphone or you are eating a burger or snack bar straight to jail for attempted manslaughter.

  • If I don't crash this year should it not become less expensive for me next years bet?

    Insurance: "During these difficult times..."

  • Ontario going backwards

  • This photo summarizes this concept clearly.

Density is the solution. Dense urban areas are the most economically viable portions of a city/town. Large parking lots and wide 4 or 6 lane roads are subsidized on the the otherhand.

Bring places closer that people want to be, no need to build a home in a field and then a Walmart 40min away on the opposite side of town. Only to then need to subsidize the road and parking to get between the two points.

  • Sprawl is actually the issue, density is the solution. It's not necessarily over population but a inefficient use of space.

Here is a excellent video on the concept and it explains how urban areas like city centers actually subsidize suburban areas. Seems counter intuitive but dense urban areas are the most profit generating for a city.

  • I hear you. I imagine getting old living in a "american suburb" and no longer being able to get around independently. Especially once I loose the ability to safely operate a vehicle, for my own safety and everyone's around me.

Coffee shops, butchers and pharmacies should always be within a quick 10min walk IMO in any suburb, or a short bike ride or tram away.

  • Most people now a day don't drive, not because they can't, but because most choose not to. Especially if they have access to viable and accessible alternatives like trains, subways, trams, buses or a bike.

I do agree with your statement "feeling trapped" and not able to go anywhere.

This TBH comes down to how our cities and towns are designed, somehow only assuming everyone no matter their age or background or income can drive. Hopefully this changes in the future someday to allow people to get around more enjoyably, independently, comfortably.

Now that being said driving schools exist. You can do a in class session for the written test, and then you can get a driving instructor that takes you around for 5 hours or more if you want to practice things like parking, parallel parking, left and right turns. You can also schedule longer sessions and multiple sessions as needed.

  • Yay! /s

  • Why does evey headline now need to have the word "quitely", or any other buzzwords for that matter

  • He does, he essentially says don't put your faith in me as doing so signals you have already given up.

Its not a single one-worded answer of course, and that's because it's understood a question like that requires some explanation of why you would come to the end conclusion.

  • Honestly if it just runs Linux that would make me happy

  • What a inefficient use of land, let alone what's being built on it.

Honestly I would probably prefer data centers built in old open pit mines before the mine gets filled back in.

Or maybe build them in Alaska for example where it's cold, or space like a halo?

  • I always wonder why in North America it's not common to have cross over lanes on the interstate and on highways.

They help for construction and could be extremely handy for situations like this.

  • I would have guess "big oil" for 300.

That being said I don't see why anyone would be opposed to other people having the option to work remotely, as it does not take away from your option to choose to work in a office environment five days a week if it's more enjoyable to you. Other people in the office are not "decorative" or considered "furniture".

Some benefits for people that prefer to work "in office" if other are allowed to work remotely (that I can think of from the top of my head).

    • less people on the morning commute meaning a quicker and more enjoyable trip into work.
    • less distraction when trying to concentrate.
    • less chance to catch a cold or virus.
    • cleaner facilities from less use, and less wear and tear of office equipment.

And I say this as someone that goes into a office environment three days a week (because I enjoy "getting out" and it's closer to a bar I like), but I do miss the times when the morning commute was a 20 min drive as opposed to a 40-50 min commute.
