  • I looked it up and all that's coming up is an upcoming Apple TV show called neuromamcer. Would you mind sharing where to watch necromancer?

  • Not exactly the same, but pantheon on Netflix is in a similar vein.

  • Seems like something someone who isn't cooking turkey would say, but in case you are cooking it, or are able to share with the person cooking it, Gordon Ramsey has a turkey recipe that involves buttering the meat directly that has never failed. I like to pre brine for alternative flavor, but for most cases his method is more than sufficient: https://gordonramsay.com/gr/recipes/roast-turkey-with-lemon-parsley-and-garlic/

There's also a video if you prefer.

  • That's totally understandable. What you've made already seems like a huge upgrade, especially seeing as you went in planning to do it all unaided. I hope you update us once you've got it open. I'm keen to know how it goes. Thank you for sharing!

  • Very true that it would involve added layers of complication. If it were me and I had one a small motor handy I would probably try it anyway. I figure worse case it runs through unsuccessfully and then I just do it manually after. If you don't have one around that's a different story, but Im'm also old and my hands aren't what they used to be. I can definitely see it being a fun distraction to do it manually though. Either way I'm sure what you've made will be a great help. Hope you report back when you open it.

Edit: just realized you're not OP. My bad, but your point still stands.

  • Very clever!

Not to take away from what you've already made, but is there a reason you don't want to automate the whole thing? 17k is a lot. Maybe I'm assuming too much, but if you have gotten this far I imagine you have access to most of what you'd need to not have to give yourself carpal tunnel.

  • Many citizens don't leave their state. Plenty of them are hand to mouth and can't afford groceries. Even local travel is a luxury to some, so I can understand why they might not have the desire to go through the process and pay for the passport, not to mention that many people don't know their SSN or have their birth certificates.

  • They don't want you knowing what other people think of the video. It's just about what you think of the video. Much easier to have an algorithmically perfect echo chamber if everyone is privately rating things and has no idea what others think about them.

  • Thank you for clarifying. I stay away from religious stuff for the most part now, but it's interesting to see where the lines are drawn between sects. Totally understand why having a new name etc makes sense mostly after there's an established religious text and doctrine, which at the time of Jesus there would not have been. Appreciate the response.

  • This is such a beautiful comment. Feels like what the internet was made for. The holidays have me all emotional, but this just was so sweet. Thank you very much for sharing! I will probably not make this for a while, since holiday plans/family visiting/cooking for out of town picky eaters/etc etc. but it might be my first dish of the new year. Legitimately very excited to try this. Thank you again for sharing.

  • In the Guardian interview, Johansson hits back at Oxfam, claiming, “for a non-governmental organization to be supporting something that’s supporting a political cause … there’s something that feels not right about that to me.”

As though Oxfam isn't political. Rights are political because they are based in what a given society will and will not allow. Oxfam theoretically is fighting for rights and therefore political.

  • I can't open this site so it might already mention this, but I went to a website that had specific buttons to have 4 different AIs offer their input on the recipe. Obviously I clicked off immediately, but that's an insane thing to do. The whole point of a recipe is that an "expert" or at least a real human being with tastebuds presumably made this and thought it was good enough to share. I don't want the general statistical average of every soup recipe. I want one specific recipe and for it to be cohesive and good. Some breads have rosemary in them. Some have raisins. Some have poppy seeds. I don't need something that doesn't understand the difference between poppy seed bread and cinnamon raisin bread telling me about poppy seed raisin bread. I know that's not exactly how it works, but still. It's incredible to me that people would do that.

  • They wanted people to feel that way. They explicitly stated they wanted people to feel defeated.

“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected,” he said. “When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work because they are increasingly viewed as the villains. We want their funding to be shut down so that the EPA can't do all of the rules against our energy industry because they have no bandwidth financially to do so.

“We want to put them in trauma.”

  • I have never really discussed Jesus' religion irl, mostly because I don't care, but I see your UN and I have been curious, why would Mary/Joseph/jesus not also be considered Christian Jews? Were they not the first to accept Jesus as a new prophet? I understand he probably was raised Jewish, but seeing as his core religious belief was not accepted into general Jewish faith, is he not at least the founder of Christianity? I figure at the time it made sense to not have a direct divide because Jews didn't have the time yet to decide if Jesus was the real thing or not, but if Jesus was able to be on the TV/radio at the time and the majority of Jews rejected him as the messiah immediately, would they still use that interim term? I understand that the term Jewish encompasses a large cultural element, but as far as religious identity, it feels strange to group people who believe Jesus was the son of god with people who think that's a lie and heretical.

  • There was an article recently about Zuck and how he's apparently running a school out of his house (compound). His very rich neighbors have been complaining and reporting it for years and nothing has been done. There is a level of wealth and power that people we think of as wealthy and powerful can't even imagine. That's what we're all up against. The whole of the upper class can't even contain these people, what chance do we little people have? There may have been a time where the people really did hold the power, but if it ever did exist, it is behind us. Not to be a doomer about it. I really do think we can and do have an effect, but things are rough right now. Hard not to feel defeatist.

  • The article does include the following:

The more persuasive explanation for the relative lack of young people in the anti-Trump, pro-democracy movement is that they are demobilized and demoralized. But it would be a mistake to blame them for this attitude. Older generations should instead recognize that the world we have created does not seem to offer a viable path to making change.

I'm not sure they're examining all the angles though. More Boomers have retired after Covid and young people are struggling even more with wage suppression and overall employment. Much harder to organize if you're living hand to mouth juggling 4 gig jobs than hand to mouth with 1 job. There's also a lot of other organizations they may be supporting. If they're working directly with local orgs they may be less willing or able to participate in these larger protests. It's also possible they just are that demoralized. Really sad overall either way. The boomers should have taken the time to talk to their cohort when they had the chance. I cut ties with some boomers, but so much of their political responses were "you're too young/you'll understand when you're older" even though I'm a whole adult. I'm sure they'd just pivot to something else, but still. I am still trying with people my age and it's working every once in a while, but I know that if I don't help my cohort they will get more entrenched. I know some boomers willing to go to a protest but unwilling to challenge their family members. I don't want to make sweeping generalizations, but I wish they'd protest less and deradicalize more, because I can protest, but I can't deradicalize their family for them.

  • Oh, I totally agree. I just wanted to make it clear that it wasn't a community organized space. I thought about adding to the comment, but it got a bit wordy so I posted it as is.

For what it's worth, an independent landlord would have a much more difficult time setting up a legitimate kids mural thing than the local municipality would for a park or train station or something. I'm not saying that's an excuse to use AI, just that it's not done as often as community art events are so I can't imagine it would have occurred to them or seemed worth their effort. Presumably, it's something they do for fun to add to the community atmosphere. I feel like they probably got scammed somewhat. I imagine they would not have put it up had they known about the quality of the image. Feels very boomer coded to me, but maybe I'm projecting based on some older people in my life. I could totally see one of them paying for something they think is going to be nice for the local festivities and then some random subcontractor shows up with this which they never even looked at or approved. They might have gone in knowing it was AI, but I can't imagine not at least looking at it before approving it, so I feel like they just went with the cheapest option and didn't think much more about it. Not that it's an excuse or anything. I just wanted to make sure people knew the article suggests that this is not funded by the government.

  • Seems like the title is misleading. Apparently it's put up privately by a landlord and not actually a community owned/operated thing.
