  • Hello, Je suis dans ton cas aussi en un peu plus jeune, Gmail est la deuxième adresse email que j'ai créé (la première et seule sérieuse après une créée très jeune avec un nom rigolo avec mon père).

    J'ai commencé ma migration des GAFAM il y a environ 2 ans en quittant Windows pour Linux. J'ai ensuite acheté une Raspberry PI et commencer à tester les alternatives que je pouvais héberger aux services que j'utilise régulièrement.

    Alors c'est loin d'être tout rose et ça demande bcp de temps pour déployer et tester le tout si je devais faire un retex de ce que j'ai testé je dirais :

    • Youtube Music: Le seul service que j'ai complètement remplacé, par Jellyfin, un bonheur et la Pi est déjà rentabilisé rien que pour ça
    • Youtube: Gros consommateur aussi, assez addict de l'algorithme j'essaie de remplacer par des flux RSS des chaînes
    • WhatsApp et co: J'ai setup un serveur Matrix ça marche globalement bien mais c'est assez chiant a setup et le gros pb reste que quasi personne n'est dessus, donc a moins de forcer tout les gens qui veulent te parler à s'inscrire (mais est ce que des gens ont envie de te parler si tu fais ça hehe), tu vas pas l'utiliser.
    • Google Drive & co: J'ai commencé à regarder Cozy, une alternative française qui propose pas mal de services et ça a l'air un peu porté par l'État donc plutôt bon point.
    • Mail: Pas encore commencé mais c'est la galère pour faire tout en local de ce que je comprends, le plus simple semble de stocker localement et utiliser un serveur distant pour le transfert via une entreprise privé

  • I fail to understand your reasoning, France is less liberal than USA the state is rather strong and they directly tax most salaries upfront of it being paid each month, they know all your property in France as these are all registered. Generally they monitor your bank account via the bank themselves that are controlled a lot so they know your income and taxes are prefilled in France. Since most of my income is my salary I have basically never filled taxes I just verify and click accept each year. So yeah it is not difficult for them to implement such programs and it a much more easy and factual data to collect than 'is this person a minority'

  • I'm sure you are right, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are using it wrong for whatever reason and it is underoptimized. But still the whole thing look like a convoluted system that I would not want to touch

  • It is funny cause I work in a company that use both SAP and a Oracle SQL db for finance data, and I totally agree with you i'm in the Oracle team and I'm soo happy not the be in the SAP team, asking them simple monthly export take few hours vs less than minutes in Oracle. Plus the interface looks horrible and you can't really access the underlying data outside of their shitty UI.

  • It is using Glance extension module (you can send custom HTML by setting up a local web api like Flask) The graph are HTML SVG tags which are basic drawing you just have to input the x,y coordinates of your graph (I copied Glance market chart) For networking data collection and monitoring I've setup my own rules and scripts but it is doable with others network monitoring tools if they let you access data easily

  • Yes the full recipe is:

    • 1 Flask API for sending custom HTML to Glance
    • 1 systemd unit + python script for the right graph (last 60 minutes, resetting counter and collecting data via nftables python module)
    • 1 systemd unit + python script for the left graph (last 24h, aggregate data from the last hour collevted by the first script And that's it, the systemd units are used to schedule python scripts and all the data are stored in flat csv file (forgot one bash script +systemd unit to to flush docker rules at boot and apply custom ones)

  • Glance is cool I love the style and it is well implemented so you can easily add custom HTML and CSS which is what I did to do this custom monitoring. Data are gathered from iptables counters that periodically reset, the hardest and most interesting part was to understand networking and to track packet through applications based on if they were port binded or reverse proxyed (I use Caddy for web facing app I want access to without a VPN). I'll definitively check more advanced solution, I just needed to do it manually first to actually understand what I'm doing (which took me like 2 weeks until I finally found this gem on ArchLinux wiki https://www.frozentux.net/iptables-tutorial/iptables-tutorial.html)

  • Even then you can't present yourself as an alternative as long as you compromise with Democrat. How it has been done in France is a new party was created that refuse any compromise, they started with ridiculous number but kept growing election on election as the traditionnal left kept compromising each time they won. And now 20 years later the tables have turned and the old left party is basically dead on presidential election

  • In an alternate reality this guy didn't went through Democrats Primary but run on his own, creating his own political party and team and in the long run I'm sure it would have actually paid off. Even if he would not have won any election for years this is about being able to share your narrative free of any outside influence.

  • I just went done this road and i'd say it is worth it even only for the learning part. I've set counter per application in nftable, and via a python script send them in SVG graph format to Glance dashboard. The result is I can monitor my whole network per application and the best part it all add up very well so I know there is no 'unknown' outgoing or ingoing traffic on my machine.

  • Yes it runs fine I played it a lot on my system. It was unplayble when I tested on Hyprland due to interaction click being unusable but worked fine on sway

  • Blink c'est le moteur de rendu, il reste en licence BSD open source et je ne pense qu'il n'y a probablement pas besoin de le patch vu qu'il ne doit pas inclure de service Google. Après un autre commentaire mentionne le fait que les forks de Chromium risque de ne pas pouvoir patcher si Google ne supporte plus certaines fonctionnalités comme le Manifest V3, ça reste à voir mais on est pas a l'abri que Mozilla fasse de même et il sera toujours temps de changer :). Sinon je connaissais pas mais Zen browser a l'air bien stylé aussi je vais essayer je pense.

  • Le moteur de Google Chrome, Chromium est un moteur open source et devellopé en partie par la communauté. Ungoogled Chromium c'est un fork de ce moteur qui le modifie pour enlever l'empreinte de Google sur le moteur. C'est le moteur le plus utilise du web donc c'est plutôt s'éviter pas mal de problèmes que de le choisir. Les alternatives que j'ai pu tester sont soit des forks de Chromium/Firefox ce qui est l'équivalent, soit posait des problèmes pour l'utilisation quotidienne sur certains sites ce qui n'est pas acceptable selon pour moi pour un navigateur internet car c'est un logiciel trop important.

  • Pas encore, j'ai jeté un coup d'oeil aux alternatives non base sur Firefox ou Chromium, notamment Gnome (Epiphany, tangram) et KDE (Falkon..) mais il y a des pbs d'affichage sur certains site qui rendent impossible une migration définitive. Je compte essayer Ungoogled Chromium parce que ca me semble être le meilleur des deux mondes.
