  • If those stupid little OBD port modules from the insurance company are anything to go by, slamming your brakes because someone cut you off at a normally safe speed will ding you.

Suddenly stopping because you rear ended that idiot to avoid the ding will also likely ding you.

In theory, on average, your rates should go down because these sudden changes in motion shouldn't be statistically common, but it's controlled by profit-seeking entities, so in practice it's just more unsurprising authoritarian corporate spyware that can't get the whole picture, scolding you and justifying your punishment.

  • I heard it was supposed to be using human brains essentially as processing power, but they thought audiences would understand "batteries" better I guess lol.

  • Really neat! But also cannot stress enough:

You will not be able to dodge a laser.

Something powerful enough to do this can easily bounce off a surface and melt your squishy little retinas before you can possibly react.

Do NOT trust those cheapo little China goggles that come with some hobby kits. If they're not certified from a reputable source, you're taking a huge gamble.

Laser safety is a huge deal, and often misunderstood. I don't know all the ins and outs of powerful lasers, so I personally don't go playing around with anything beyond your average pointer.

Please be exceedingly careful with using lasers of any kind. These random Alibaba kits have zero compunction about selling you something highly dangerous that could irreparably take away your sight, or burn through something that releases toxic fumes.

(Laser engravers are especially bad about this with very irresponsible advertising.)

  • This is exactly why I laughed out loud, incredulously, at Dell's "AI powered laptop" commercial that promises you will "free up so much time for the things you love" by using AI.

From washing machines to robot assembly, we're still buying that old lie??

The tools improve, the expectations increase, the wage stays the same.

  • Not to mention when they're in error, it's your word vs. the bot's.

  • Y'know the worst freaking part of it is that even when you KNOW it's complete bullshit, the little bit of doubt can still eat away at you.

So I'm glad real scientists confirmed that it's bogus, yeah.

This whole clan of grifters thrives on FUD-poisoning.

  • Don't forget "Who famously raped and was party to the murder of other people's babies."

  • Huh, this is kinda like the creepy phenomenon where (usually) chicks with an unhealthy true-crime obsession start crushing over (often deceased) serial killers. . .

  • You effectively view them through "rose colored glasses"

They must be seeing him through orange colored glasses, effectively normalizing his appearance. . . But who knows what they're smoking to ignore all their other senses!

  • I owned it. Still do. I was a foolish child who liked Superman. Still do!

The most insulting part was using GameShark to level skip and realizing the rest of the game wasn't much fun (or finished) either.

They could have done so much better by removing the timed rings thing and just let you fly around a mostly empty city, blowing up Lex's robots or something. It would at least have felt Superman-esque lol.

  • This reminds me: I was thinking of "Independence War Deluxe", because sheesh, I couldn't even get that running from a PC Gamer demo CD on release-era hardware LOL.

  • We can tell every interested country/party/whatever to fund it with $1bn US. 👍

  • They seem to just really, really love the boot. They're only particular about the brand, it seems.

  • This. This. A thousand times a thousand times, yes. Nobody should be blindly trusting their safety to Amazon, one of the worst abusers of trust and privacy.

(Plus they're the most common hardware... Guess what's getting targeted for mass exploits?)

Almost anything is better than giving Amazon access to your home.

  • I've always dreamed of silly but cool interfaces like this! Awesome!

... Now link it to HomeAssistant and you really can use it to toggle door locks! :p

  • That sounds fun and extremely dangerous, like, well, running around my valuables with a loaded gun, really lol.

  • Ooo yes I feel more terminal LARPing in my future. This is gorgeous, thank you for sharing this! :D

I thought CoolRetroTerm was as rad as I could feel doing terminal things. :D

  • As a KDE person who's got an 'ol reliable Mint machine, I'm really glad Cinnamon has fans. I do wish certain customization was a little easier maybe? But it really does "just work" while looking pretty enough and not being overly obtuse.

I love my KDE and it kicks butt right now, but I don't want to see everything converge on a single DE. I want them all to improve for the people who love them for their own reasons.

    Cinny rocks.
