  • This doesn't seem like much of a threat to China. In fact, it sounds like the US putting the last nail in the coffin of the American games industry. Every major American company is already trying to close, divest from, or move just about every studio to Asia, India, or Eastern Europe. If they block all Chinese investment it'll only hurry along the not too distant day when the only US made games will be an ever declining Fortnite and Microsoft making a Call of Duty propaganda piece fuller and fuller of AI slop every year as numbers dwindle slowly.

  • Over the past year, the reactionary US president has done what the “antiwar” left has been calling for.

This is such obvious bad faith horseshit that I'm surprised even Jacobin (where the bar is on the floor) allows it to pass. The idea that the Trump US position of a Ukraine & Russia shakedown while still treating Russia as an enemy state is remotely the same as any pronicpaled anti-war leftist would suggest is just absurd.

  • Fucking hell, that makes the queue in my local sandwich shop look like the International Socialist Congress even though I live in Gammon-on-River.

  • This is bullshit and they know it. It's to flood the zone for SEO/attention reasons because the executive and engineering rats are fleeing the Anthropic ship over the last week or two and more will follow.

  • The fact that Germany wasn't broken up and never actually went through serious denazification is exactly the evidence required to demonstrate that the entire entity, participants, and machinations of the Israel project must be taken apart piece by piece until there's too little left to ever reform it.

  • The British Museum is already one of the world's biggest active crime scenes. Why not throw in a little art theft in too, as a modern example that appeals to the youth?

  • Nah, this is at least partly if not mostly for British engineering and services companies who already work in China. It cuts down red tape and cost for them, plus it's the most basic precursor to potentially agreeing on services legislation.

It'll likely also be used as another avenue of infiltration for US removed / JSOC.

Starmer is a completely owned and proud bagman for US intelligence services.

  • This one is a banger.

  • It's from his last book Kingdom of Fear if I remember rightly. Possibly the most depressing of all, although full of darkly spot on pessimism about the American 21st Century.

Edit: It is. Here's a few more choice lines...

Sane is rich and powerful. Insane is wrong and poor and weak. The rich are free, the poor are put in cages. Res Ipsa Loquitur, amen. Mahalo.

The real power in America is held by a fast-emerging new Oligarchy of pimps and preachers who see no need for Democracy or fairness or even trees, except maybe the ones in their own yards, and they don't mind admitting it. They worship money and power and death. Their ideal solution to all the nation's problems would be another 100 Year War.

There are always risks in challenging excessive police power, but the risks of not challenging it are more dangerous, even fatal.

  • IT WAS THAT THEN YOU COMFORTABLE CRACKER ****S! YOU JUST DIDN'T GIVE A SHIT BECAUSE IT WASN'T BEING TAGETED TOWARDS MIDDLE-CLASS WHITE SUBURBANITES!

  • Maximise your reading potential = work yourself back towards illiteracy.

  • I mean yes, because white liberals were doing very well out of the post-war boom and the general looting and oppression of the rest of the world and minorities at home. But then I'm old

What post-2008 (if not far earlier) liberals get out of it, other than a polite mask for their own racism, and think the difference is now I have no fucking idea.

  • I mean, that is pathetic, and as I Brit I'm very familiar with that kind of royal bootlicking.

I meant more than someone would accept a beer with that label on it in exchange for foreign control.

  • This feels like something from an (original) Fallout or Wasteland game. Like a hyper post-capitalist land for beads reference.

  • I feel like this might be a small town / less affluent town thing. I always just assumed some of the young people in Stardew have that slightly arrested development and same living situation as they would as teenagers like lots of people who grew up in the country or towns that were hard to get out of do.

    Drink the long draught, Dan,

    for the Hip Priest.

  • Agreed.

Thing is America's economy is cooked. It's AI grifts, crypto scams, and gambling all the way down. The only actual wing of the economy is the military industrial complex and washing the dollar through other countries via warfare and asset seizure.

We're fully into the newest Lebensraum era of the US where, as the generals kept saying to Hitler, 'the war will pay for itself'.

The only problem for the US is that it usually doesn't as the targets get harder and the ROI of plundering countries gets thinner. I mean, look at Trump's meeting with the oil execs for an early example; they don't even want to invest $100bn for oil extraction in Venezuela because they don't think the US can keep control of it long-term.

    1. It's always absurd to watch America cry about how the massive global panopticon they built is allowing others to see bad things about America.
    2. If you didn't want ordinary people posting reality on their timelines then perhaps you shouldn't have cultivated a system where smartphones are cheap but the cost of living keeps most people in or just above poverty.
    3. It obviously doesn't take shadowy state intervention for people to look at how much American content is about being broke or struggling, see point 2.
    4. Even if it was state-led strategy to highlight worsening material conditions in the US (it's not) at least it's actually factual, unlike the US' standard procedure of just making shit up about China entirely.
