  • It was my character name in my first MMO, the English beta for MapleStory back over 20 years ago, and I've been using it ever since. I picked it since it was close to Mithril, from Lord of the Rings.

  • Our development branch is "working", then we have specific dated snapshots where we run our datasets through our programs.

  • Mass Effect Andromeda. I loved the original trilogy, even the third one, and I was hopeful that they'd live up to what they were promising. Instead, we got a garbage game that completely tossed the idea of exploring a new galaxy. I tried to play it 3 different times, just to give it a chance, and I couldn't go through with it.

  • I'd say part of the problem for Andromeda was that everyone else got there first in terms of colonization; the player isn't exploring a new location, untouched by colonists, they're going to an established settlement and exploring around that instead.

  • One of my cats periodically likes to stick his head through the window blinds at 2 in the morning to look outside. When he does that he makes these terrible choking noises, which causes me, if I'm awake to hear it, to run out and check on him. At that point, he'll pull his head out and look at me like I'm the idiot for being worried about him...

  • Oh, it's a great book. Or at least, I liked it a lot. The library mulching was opposed by most of the characters.

  • This reminds me of the book Rainbows End, by Vernor Vinge. In it, a company uses a mulcher to grind down all the books and shelves in a library, then uses scans of the scraps to reassemble the books in digital form for an AR version of the library.

  • Current hourly forecast says we're gonna get thunderstorms around 5 here, but the rain will start at 3.

  • Raw spinach is great, I can just eat handfuls of that all day. Cooked spinach is gross, both in flavor and texture.

  • He's playing shuffleboard, I think.

  • A fire extinguisher. I'm glad I've never had to use it so far...

  • I thought trains were the most efficient way to ship goods, though I'll concede that trains are notoriously bad at crossing oceans.

  • I agree on the whole anthem/pledge thing, but flyovers do have at least some value in that they give pilots flight hours. Those planes would have to be in the air anyway for training, so they might as well use them for advertising via flyovers.

  • I'm similar, but it's internal drives are planets, while external drives are moons.

  • Eh, I don't think it's specifically related to this story. But I do agree that it's concerning that they were totally fine with it before the election.

  • The conservative Christians i know are already pulling back from him, but only in a "he's a bad person but he's helping us on some issues", which is quite different from what they were saying before the election.

  • I assume they meant flat?

  • I don't name my machines anything special, but I've started naming my internal hard drives/samba shares after planets, and external drives after moons.
