  • Somehow it is possible for both Windows and Linux on PC to get an installation guide with next next next installer click guide. You dont get that on Android ever.

Ideally it should be as easy so anyone could install it that want to. Today it is simply too hard. Alternative rooms dont have chance to be mainstream without that.

  • too hard

There are tons of things you have to do succeed to get it to boot Lineage OS or similar. Last time I checked there were no next-next-next installation guide on the phone. It is line trying to install arch linux without the arch installer.

Yes, I really want to use anything else than Android by Google. Lineage OS would offer more updates. But also possible do install other apps as I have heard it means rooting it which always is required to get Lineage OS?

I can install debian server on PC. No problem. But on smartphones you are suppose to do some unlocking of bootloader? Then install some TRWP or something to boot into. There you have some unzip tool that you have to find tree(!) files and install them in the right order and be lucky you picked the exact right one(WHY is it not enough with ONE file and wipe/clean is done automatically?). Then you have to do something about recovery I think. IF you succeed installation(I have never succeeded that far), you have to install g-something to get google play to work so you can install apps and get them in working shape. Then when there is a new Linage OS android version you have to repeat everything AGAIN. This is really madness how much extra work and hard it has to be...

WHY can't it just be in Android by Google to just install an app called installer Lineage OS - click confirm installation and let it do the rest?!

  • Tutanota calender app. Works offline. Encrypted. Sync with tutanota login so very easy to setup.

Use tutanota webb to view calender on pc. Might work as well with their desktop app(not tried)

  • Want to but can't install it. It is too hard.

  • I don't want that. Trump just need help to make good decisions. Until he finds it - he should not make any decisions by himself. Use the kongress where the different parties votes. And please Trump. Don't come up with any more ideas - you have already made too many decisions.

  • Maybe add 20% tariffs to that

  • Configuration gui standard. Usually there is a config file that I am suppose to edit as root and usually done in the terminal.

There should be a general gui tool that read those files and obey another file with the rules. Lets say it is if you enable this feature then you can't have this on at the same time. Or the number has to be between 1 and 5. Not more or less on the number. Basic validation. And run the program with --validation to let itself decide if it looks good or not.

  • Your new account will be online. Can access OneDrive and everything Microsoft Online offers. That means anyone with internet access can try to login to it so it has to be very secure.

Windows Hello can be used for local login. But I agree with you. I would love to be able to access my Keepassxc vault during the login process. But that might be hard to archive so better to use Windows Hello.

  • It is insecure to create one account with username and password during the setup process. The password should always come from your password manager. But you would not have access to your password manager during the installation process.

    Please remove this step.

  • Timeshift for snapshots and deja backups for files

  • The user can choose. Please note you first much accept another client by its fingerprint.

  • Musk need to shut up

  • This is where the machine is hosted? I am thinking about the domain they used might be a different one. Example I would take where it is cheapest to host it.

  • This law cannot go through! This is a threat to democracy in our country.

Privacy matter. You must be able to talk to your friends without needing to worry about if the government is listening to you. This will not help to catch the bad guys as they will just change to some other protocol. But it opens up the possiblity for third party doing something that they should not even be able to do. Stop this now.

  • Stop this!

Would anyone accept if the government installed a door into your house that only they have the key to?! Just in case they need to come in and avoid kicking the normal door when I am not home...

  • Maybe with different servers. But then you need a good aggregation tool and seamless experience shifting between them.

  • They are not suppose to do that. It is disrespect to the user privacy. Hence good opportunity to change owner. Just a design flaw of the protocol that makes it possible to abuse that. Gmail is just one single provider, but yes, many more does it and Gmail is big.

  • PeerTube can't store all videos. Only Youtube can handle the storage cost by using ads due to the massive amount of users. But you could still have a list of links etc. for videos. Maybe stream directly the video youtube but never be on the youtube site. This might already exist in form of FreeTube. It only misses the possibility to view PeerTube vides as well.

  • I don't use Gmail. There are plenty of email providers out there that is completely free without ads and privacy focused. Mailfence, Tutanota, ProtonMail etc. Personally I use my ISP provider that is actually pro privacy - Bahnhof . That due it is a niche and if you don't save logs you don't have the log storage cost.

If feddit.nu (only 50 users) did not exist I would have chosen to self-host it on the free Oracle VPS teir.
