  • I went into the show knowing nothing and really enjoyed season 1. I thought season 2 had good elements, but didn't work overall. I'll probably still watch (or at least start) season 3.

For me season 2 felt like a show trying at adapt a book, if that makes sense. Parts of it didn't feel believable, but I could convince myself it made sense if someone took time to explain it, but the show didn't. Or the opposite where a subtle reveal would beat you over the head because instead of slowly hinting, they just very clearly make odd decisions that have to have meaning.

  • Is saying you have a four season plan the same as forcing a show to last x number of seasons? Four isn't some arbitrary number, it's how many seasons the creator of the show thinks it will take. Vince wants to tell a story and he is saying I need four seasons of episodes to do it.

  • Breaking Bad was just a two season show, Walt either wins or he loses.

Better Call Saul should have just been a one season show, we already know he's Saul Goodman.

    /s

Breaking Bad was interesting because we watched Walt go from a mild mannered high school chemistry teacher to murderous meth kingpin.

Better Call Saul was interesting because we saw a screw up little brother turn into a huge drug lawyer. (It's more than that, but I'll keep it light on the details for now.)

And Carol? Look at episode 1 Carol versus this past episode Carol. How will the new episode/finale change her again? There is a lot of ways the story could go, and I'm excited to see what happens.

  • Plus, those people do exist before we see them. We just don't learn about them until part way into the film.

  • Turns out I was wrong, Lightstorm Entertainment is who produces the film and owns the Avatar production technology, and that company is owned by James Cameron.

It's Fox who does the distribution, and Fox's parent company is of course Disney.

So Cameron is just waiting for it to be an actual success before announcing the sequels (although they seem to already have release dates.)

Avatar 2 & 3 shot together (or back to back) and that's the same plan for Avatar 4 & 5, so waiting a few weeks isn't really a big deal. Plus various planning is already underway, so it'll really just be an "announcement" that everyone expects.

  • Publicly Cameron has been saying he is going to wait and see how 3 does before he announces 4 and 5. He likely has the money to self finance them, although they are expensive films, like some of the most expensive films, so it's really probably Disney or whomever who is waiting.

I think if it bombed completely, he might have paused and made some changes to the upcoming films before moving forward.

But in the long run 4 and 5 are probably getting made regardless.

  • The second and third paragraphs outline it in terms of box office, but it's basically good. The Christmas holiday season is also different when looking at films and their opening weekend. People are more likely to wait and see a film at/around Christmas proper, aka this upcoming week. The lower review scores might cause a slightly lower turnout, but most people know what to expect and probably aren't dissuaded.

Will Avatar 3 break box office records? Probably not. Will it make enough money that James Cameron will get to make Avatar 4 & 5? Likely.

  • I admire your bravery to admit such a thing. You're a fool, but a brave fool.

  • No six months to a year is probably about right. They'll have enough data by then to say "most people don't turn it off" because realistically most people will use the default, which is on.

Twenty years from now Firefox will be in a new controversy that we can't even begin to guess.

Plus, while I can't predict when the AI bubble will pop, whatever they add in the next year will be removed within the next five years. AI isn't like browser tabs, or extensions, stuff that will always be a great idea, it's just the current fad.

  • I've always heard this story as "The Bad Conductor" and it was cigars not bananas. Specifically smoking them in one big puff.

But, for anyone wondering this is a "shaggy dog story" which doesn't usually have a single specific retelling. The goal is to tell a long winded story that goes on and on and on and ultimately ends with a silly little joke or pun.

  • Evil Hank says, "Taste the heat, not the meat!" as he burns you alive with his propane flamethrower. You can't burn a man alive with charcoal.

  • I've taken now three cognitive tests

The final question of the test, written on he back of the paper, is "Don't go on TV and tell everyone you aced a simple cognitive test". That's why he has to keep on taking them.

  • For simple sandwiches, like a ham & cheese, I agree.

In all other cases, you're a monster.

  • I agree. I don't know the individuals involved or the typical subjects discussed on the podcast, but I'm fine laying out the arguments and having an honest/real discussion.

Someone who initially thinks the answer is "Yes" should be able to watch this and be convinced "No" is the correct answer.

  • I skimmed the video, but given the choices of TOS, TNG & DS9, Giamatti chose DS9, TOS, then TNG.

  • Alternative headline,

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's daughter flys for the first time in 25 years

  • either deny it, or directly support the corruption.

They'll support it because it "feels" true. Even if that one is fake, it "feels" true and so it probably is true. Just because we can't find truth doesn't mean that it isn't the truth.

  • Why's she gotta be so goddamn fuckable?

This episode was probably my favorite after the first episode. I could watch more episodes just like this as we grow to understand who these characters are and what they're up to.

I understand the feedback of the show being slow, because we should have already had this scene and many like it. But I do think the build up is important. Really what it means is I want more episodes. But I'm still happy with what we have.

  • It's so funny watching Dustin grow into an rebellious teenager. He really does Eddie proud.

And Holly starting off in a blue dress like Alice in Wonderland, then putting on the Red Riding Hood to venture into the woods. Holly the Heroic!
