  • I think you're right that sounds carry politics - similar to how language more obviously does. But, there was definitely a time when I thought language was apolitical.

I like your comment on art being a public asset once it is published.

The agit-prop you're doing with mixtapes is rad. I used to do similar shit leaving socialist newspapers on the train.

    Have a good night, comrade.

  • I think your 'noise' art is pretty interesting - reminds me of audio I'd hear in the backdrop of a prolekult documentary. I think people would really value access to that content as a creative commons digital asset.

And your response has helped me refine my thoughts on this. I agree that all art has meaning - I think the 'point' of some art forms can be harmful though (case in point would be Chernobyl-esque prestige TV) and genres that lend themselves to trapping their audiences in behavior "loops" strike me as harmful as they (by virtue of finite time allocation) deter political organization.

To express this more clearly - if we're inundated by our jobs most of the day and then fall into non-political loops in our free time as well - this is a recipe for political inertia / capitalist stasis. And, obviously I'm not immune to this - it's just too "on the nose" in some mediums like jam bands, games with no endings, substance abuse, etc.

  • I think I struggle with jazz for the same reasons. It feels akin to how certain people will get pissed off at visual art which "doesn't say anything" - sure it looks (sounds) nice but there is something in me that wants music to have a message/meaning that only more structured musical varieties seem to capture.

And now I recall when my ex accused (pre-socialist) me of engaging in philosophy as a form of mental masturbation and I think she was correct. Institutionally sanctioned Western philosophy is just running in circles, trapping intellectuals in a loop of neutered academia.

So, similar to how now I enjoy socialist theory (Which has a point) I guess I insist on art forms to have a point as well.

And naturally I make arbitrary exceptions to this rule - but jam bands (and I guess jazz?) really just seem to be in a meaningless loop on stage.

  • unreal!

  • I wish when I was younger and in my peak posting prowess I was combating liberalism rather than going on tirades about the latest DotA patch.

    You are very cool, Cowbee.

  • I do not understand jam bands.

The Grateful Dead trouble me deeply.

  • thanks for the response

  • oof

  • All I can say is there is a reason no one feels need to dunk on non-AES nations that no longer exist.

It is because they have to actively suppress the future.

  • elaborate for the uninformed? or link?

  • Hope to join you soon. Congrats.

  • Pretty sure Western paternalistic intervention in their nation's internal affairs is actually denying them agency

  • I think you chose the right one

  • And this is only the "official" non-hybrid stuff

  • can't make this shit up

  • that's really about all you can do without being executed in that position sadly

  • Is there a reason Spain and Norway (and Slovakia for that matter) are both on this list? Genuine question.

  • Yeah - might be time to start including examples to learn from (e.g. palestine action)
