Fair question. It's definitely within my ability to "just" swap to something else, I'd prefer something self hosted that's foss. I will do it at some point, cf was a bit of a stop gap for me.
CF tunnels are similar to reverse proxies I believe. I started using their quick tunnels to expose things to the web and I found it very easy. A few things I wanted to host needed domains so I bought a domain from cf and get access to the permanent tunnels. Their tools are good and I know them from being the company that you call when you get ddos'd. I figured it would keep me safer while I was still figuring things out.
I feel like in my case I used them because of my ignorance. I know of openvpn i'll look into it.
I tried open vss I think it's called on arch and I have trouble using it to remotely access configs on my home server via the SSH extension. I got fed up with it and installed the MS version from yay. I resent it but it works.
My DC has the cheap 3rd party psu it's fine but you want a good wall wart for it, I use a wii psu brick with a soldered barrel connector. If you can recapping the original psu is the best bet though.
For the ode I have the GDEMU cheap Ali express one is fine I think the original ones are hard to get.
Then I did the noctua fan mod. It's a very loud machine by modern standards.
Running arch BTW with a 4080 figuring out how to install the drivers was fine. I run a 240hz 1440p with hdr no issues. Haven't done a ton of gaming ran guardians of the galaxy because it was fairly new no issues. This is on kde, I have some issues with kde because my initial install I used cinnamon then swapped to kde its caused some instability going to do a reinstall sometime soon.
AIO is a fun one to setup. I found it much easier with portainer. The thing that always catches me with Docker is the permissions after it's setup. I had nextcloud up for a week I could access my external hdd over Webdav and nothing else haha.
Tmux is good because I can have a little window with a bonsai in it and another little window for the matrix. Sometimes I even leave a window for typing in commands.
Everywhere is a bit of an exaggeration they are definitely still around but nowhere nearly as prolific as they where in the 90s. Also anything that wasn't owned by Telecom/Telstra is long gone.
It's not global, Michelin stars aren't a thing in Australia atleast. I imagine there's a lot of places where people don't get food recs from a tyre company.
