  • I really wish we had inverted color emojis, the eye emoji (👁) would look so close to the "dolls" eyes.

  • I gotta say this isn't my experience at all. It's any gender being any kind of welcoming to new people. That includes me in all positions (being the "haven't known him for long enough" and "we found him along the way", and also being the one who does both of those things). If anything my experience has been that women have been more welcoming to new people, of course within reason and depending on the situation. But it's not at all heavily towards one side or the other, people are people and situational logic plays a larger part than anything else.

  • Some other Swedish ones:

Jam in the pancake crease - Sylt i plättväcket (plätt(ar) is a small kind of pancake)Closed for the week - Stängt för veckanOld Lady red - Tant rödThe misery - EländetMonth crazy - Månadsgalen

  • Why does he say buckle up if they have no seat belts...? And how has no one mentioned this yet?

  • This is crazy, I just woke up and I remembered I drunkenly installed a game yesterday but couldn't for the life of me remember what the game was. I opened my lemmy app and see this close to the top and remembered it was dying light: the beast. I finished the second one a couple of months ago and wanted to take a small break before diving into the new one, while also letting some more patches be released.

I'm currently playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 too but I'm unsure if it's for me. I see why it's so loved but I'm not at all good with tight timing stuff and I feel the exploration is a bit lackluster.

  • "Being afraid of what you don't understand is completely reasonable"

No it isn't... It's common, but not reasonable, and it's a big factor in so much bad about humanity. We need to teach people to specifically NOT be afraid of stuff they don't understand and instead learn more about that those things, and to never have strong opinions (which includes fear) about things they know nothing or little about.

  • It's fine on Summit, definitely something about how specific apps handle images and should be posted as s bug report to the communities for those apps.

  • You somehow still learned wrong, and I don't understand how any of that happened. Nvidia not working well with Linux is so widely known and talked about, I knew about it, and the actual reason (which is the reverse of what you think), for several years before switching. I feel like you must have never tried to look anything up, spent any time in a place like lemmy or any forums with a Linux focus and basically must have decided to and kept yourself in some bubble of ignorance and no connection to learn anything.

  • there*

  • Not if you do it from behind.

  • This applies to so much. It's almost always people who have never experienced anything truly hard, no matter if it's the same category, who do the "omg, that's so me" thing. Experience of that leads to empathy, sympathy and understanding that someone else's struggles with something that has never been hard for you can be the main thing that makes their lives difficult. That's not an exclusive thing, of course, some people understand that even though they have never had issues on the same level, and some people have had stuff that's affected them and their lives more bit still don't get that. But my experience is that those are outlier more than the norm.

  • I've read about some Judges doing similar things to that, anything in their power to help, but that percentage is so small compared to ones who willingly go along with all this that it barely puts a dent in the whole. It's fucking scary, and I say that as someone that's not from/in the US and have not had the mental energy to really keep up to date with everything. What I do know is that if this was my curreny country of residence (immigrant or not, legal status irrelevant) and had the mental energy to keep up I'd only be even more scared. The only hope I can put in the table is that many Judges and people in any other kind of position of power want to do more than they can without loosing those positions, and the more people of any kind who fight back the more they will be able to stand their ground and help people in need. Every single grain of sand won builds up to help give power to others, both currently and in the future.

  • Said this in another thread a couple of days/weeks ago (what is time?) but it still feels like a fever dream to be reminded of it.

  • "His mother"

Just how did you make that mistake..?

  • This made me look up Europe vs the US prisoners stats:

European population is 750,000,000.US population is 350,000,000.

    Europe has 500,000 prisoners.US has 2,000,000 prisoners.

I knew it would be bad but that's fucking unbelievable... Half the population but 4x the amount of prisoners.

And just to be clear; this was from a couple of minutes of searching, I don't have time right now to delve deeper and really back up those numbers. If anyone has more knowledge and sources, please correct me.

  • IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

  • How the fuck was any of that confusing? It's about as clear as it can be....

  • I'm actually surprised it's only 5 years old, I would have guessed 10.
