biologically speaking, the children of rich parents are much more likely to be born rich themselves
Bro, what? Biologically speaking? What are you talking about? The kids of rich people are rich because their parents are rich. They grow up to be rich because they have their parents wealth, which they either use to create more, or just stay rich. The fact that they're rich has nothing to do with their "biology".
What are you proposing anyway? That only rich people procreate and then somehow eventually everyone will be rich? If you can do simple math like addition and subtraction, you'll realize that that scenario is not possible.
Like I already said, no, they do not. The sales volume was lower on the days before and after too. The boycott actually changed consumer habits for a while there - people were buying only what they needed and refrained from all other spending.
I mean if you refrain from going to a cafe bar on friday, it's not like you are going to make up for it on saturday. Same goes for all "luxury" items basically.
Spreading defeatist comments and pessimism, saying that this won't accomplish anything anyway and undermining the power of the collective is exactly what killed this movement in Croatia.
The movement started with a general spending boycott on fridays (so no money transactions - no stores, bars, gas stations, bank transactions etc), and a week long boycott of three supermarket chains that had the most egregious prices compared to other countries (those chains operate all over Europe, and their prices in other countries are far cheaper for the exact same products - despite lower operational costs in Croatia). After that, we switched to boycotting one chain every week.
The boycott was very effective. On the first friday of the boycott, the state financial department reported a 43% decrease in sales volume in the country. Just think about that for a second. And no - there has not been an increase in spending in the days before or after the boycott. In fact, they were still lower compared to the weeks before and the sales volume decreased in the following week by about 10%.
But like I said, unfortunately it died out over the next 4-5 weeks, with each boycott achieving lower decreases. And it died out exactly because of trolls that spread this defeatist attitude thinking they're so smart for seeing the "real" picture. LaughableOf course, the astroturfing has been insane, they really went berserk after the first friday. There's been an insane amount of bots posting comments that this doesn't work, that we should be protesting the government instead (as if holding signs in front of government buildings hurts them more than 50% less money flowing into the state piggy bank), that this hurts the citizens more than the conglomerates, that this will cause them to increase the prices to cover the losses etc etc. Just ridiculous claims all over social mediaAnd yeah, people got deflated and the movement died out.
I mean, bikes are great for a lot of things and cities should definitely have the infrastructure to support their usage, but let's not pretend that they can easily replace cars in every use caseCars are faster, cover long distances which are just infeasible for bikes, are more comfortable, can be used in bad weather, and are needed for people with disabilities. Granted, all of those use cases should be covered by a good public transport system, but that's exactly why cars are considered to be the symbol of freedom - not depending on the bus/train schedules, weather, distance etc.
He didn't say the service was "not so exciting". He said "I didn't think it was a good service, no" and "they could do much better" (source).
I know it's not a huge deal, but I'm fucking tired of the media misreporting and softening his statements.
I don't understand why everyone who says this is downvoted in this thread. Saying that the apologists of a fascist who gave the Nazi salute on national television are more right that centre seems like a pretty reasonable stance.
You'd think that this would be something that clearly, unambiguously and without any trace of plausible deniability proves that. But no, they STILL try to wiggle out of it. That's why it's relevant.
And he even has the audacity to say afterwards that the "everyone is Nazi" accusation is getting old. This whole situation is bizarre.
It's so ridiculous that experts have to even weigh in on this issue. Its clear as fucking day, he gave the Nazi salute, TWICE. On national television, at a rally on the inauguration day of the current american president. This whole situation is completely insane.
What did he say? I only saw him reply to a tweet saying that accusing everyone of being Nazi is getting tired, but I didn't see that he actually commented on the salute.
But what about housing? If you live in a shoebox with no hope of getting a larger place, it's unlikely that you're gonna have kids.
