Just adding that since they game Bazzite is maybe the better option but still fedora based.
But I've too seen compatibility issues recently with Ubuntu and Ubuntu based distros, but not really with Debian based ones (yes, even though Ubuntu is based on Debian). I don't know why, but even MX has given me less troubles recently than Mint (not that I'd recommend base MX though - I just heavily customized it so that it's elderly friendly, so people who basically barely can use a browser and have poor eyesight).
Ignore this person OP, they're basically lost to the Void Linux, not understanding the whole world doesn't necessarily want to spend countless hours tweaking every little thing or even more hours troubleshooting. Sure I like it and have an Arch based laptop, but I'm still same enough to know that most people don't find that fun or nice &tc.
Just go with Bazzite if you want something easy to use that's hard to mess up with gaming, and use the Flatpaks. If you ever do one day feel like having a bit more control and tinker power though, I learned today Cachy is a good next step, since it's still very easy to use for gaming but is based on Arch.
Well luckily I have an emergency spare 1660 super at least that I know works.
First time I've been burned on a used card. Should have been known that deal was too good to be true this time.
Still, between the 1660 super and this 3060ti, still cheaper than a new 4050 or 5060 and even AMD stuff of comparable performance. Though the Intel Arcs are around there - if I knew how well they ran on Linux, I'd be willing to give them a try in the future brand new.
What different Linux OS's have you tried to install on this HW, what happened when you tried to install each one?
Which ones worked as a LiveBoot, but failed on bare metal, or vice versa?
Bazzite, Garuda, and currently Cachy.
Bazzite only worked baremetal, Garuda is stuck at 720p, and Cachy is also stuck at 720p. Changing open source drivers to closed source did not work on Cachy, and the display was glitched. Changing it back didn't help either.
Edit: I was typing more but figured out it's the graphics card that's bad 🥲
So I've tried downgrading bios and disabling CPPC, but neither helped.
However, that was with Bazzite, not Cachy. I'm not currently as I speak installing Cachy, as that actually loaded into the live iso (seems Arch based distros so far make it through at least, since Garuda also managed to install) - but, it also currently only outputs in 720p. I'll see if that persists once it's fully installed, and if it does, I'll try something else - I'll try to see if it's still blurry when using Dvi instead of HDMI.
Currently trying CachyOS - it's also still blurry, but the installer is currently also blurry similar to Garuda. That said Cachy does at least look much better and offered more option, and will install a CPU microcode which I'm hoping will fix some issues.
Also it's a bit less blurry if I change the setting in my monitor to "aspect".
I just hope it'll work well at it's installed. At least the live iso is running much faster as well.
