  • Notwithstanding this reasoning, many uber-wealthy people consistently say that at some point money itself ceases to be a motivating factor. Once their net worth becomes a meaninglessly large number ir's more about the thrill of seeing large-scale plans come true, overcoming huge obstacles, changing the world, feeling superhuman, etc.

  • I think the badass part was the presentation, which made immediately tripping on a wire all the more embarrassing.

  • You can do that when MAGA makes your budget bigger than the FBI, the DEA, and the federal Bureau of Prisons combined.

  • You can leave your job behind.

  • Right this moment "Shake it Up" by the Cars. TBH I wouldn't call it "stuck" tho - I play a lot of songs in my head on purpose.

  • I've seen London, I've seen France, I've seen docs in Comic Sans.

  • Notice the printed date, One thousand nine hundred and ________

Clearly this is one of the things they had to update for Y2K.

  • So, no hiring hackers to actually change votes to Biden/Harris votes, but anything short of that? I dunno, if that were their standard they would have released the Epstein stuff. My real guess is that some Democratic politicians are also on the list. Even if it's only a couple, they might have figured running against a convicted felon gave them such good odds there was no need to throw any of their own under the bus. And apparently none of them said, "Well but what if he hires hackers to change votes to Trump votes?"

  • This made me wonder, what's the steepness threshold between a sloping meadow and a cliff?

  • kthxbye

  • "To reach the golden temple you and your companions must first pass through the vast Caverns of Corruption."

  • See you on the Other Side.

  • I'm not a Paramount subscriber but was thinking of getting it to watch Picard. Now I'll just wait til there's a free 30-day trial, or til they put it on Netflix or whatever.

  • Moving means partly alive, but partly alive means mostly dead, so off you go!

  • Oh great. "unalives" is my term for a group of people in my D&D world who were sort of turned into ghosts by a vast magical accident. They were actually shifted into a demiplane created by the accident, but to outsiders they appear to be ghosts. Anyway if I eventually publish the world am I going to offend people and get accused of queer/transhate or slangjacking or something? I made it up many years ago when social media was MySpace, or even earlier.

  • I doubt that the pay is insane yet. There are a lot more PHP devs than COBOL devs. About half of the web still runs on PHP. It's true that COBOL runs about half of the financial world, but PHP is less than 30 years old whereas COBOL programs are relics from decades earlier, and generally only get updated minimally if the systems around them change.

  • I agree. A lot of people who mock PHP know almost nothing about it but they know they're supposed to hate it because all the cool kids do.

  • Or TSP (trisodium phosphate) - which you can't even make websites with, but it's great for cleaning oil spots off the driveway.
