Just a dude on the internet, looking for content and fun! I love Linux, gaming, writing, reading, music, anime, walks, and occasionally movies too. Chronically ill and anxious too, that makes life quite interesting...At times.

  • To me, if Sony has tried in recent memory, they'll do it again. They already have an aggressive walled garden approach that is meant to trap users (much like Apple). I can't realistically support that kind of behavior, until they make the majority of their games multi-platform (like Microsoft has) and PSN absolutely not necessary on other platforms with better online integration and authentication support...They can kick rocks.

While Sony did fulfill promises of hardware capabilities for console, it comes with a spoonful of poison.

I'm also not very brand loyal, so I will flit between competitors to see what's good (if they don't have shitty practices). Valve, while flawed in some respects has kept me in their ecosystem the longest. With the support for Linux and making gaming a better experience on my preferred OS...I do use them the most for my gaming needs these days. Which is why I will be buying a Steam Machine, as my needs are met on their platform.

Quick Resume is nice, but, I often never utilized it because I just shut down a game instead of resuming from where I was. It had some quirks, but it is fairly solid.

"NOTE: I didn’t use AI for my response. I’ve been using the em-dash before Google existed and I ain’t quitting." Eh? I don't think I ever implied you were a clanker lover and used one to make a response. The other trademarks of generated responses aren't present in your reply to me. I suppose you were trying to ward off other users in this case...

  • Good make these fuckers lives miserable, as they fucked around now they get to find out!

  • I'm glad your happy with this move.

Personally, I despite Sony as well, they aren't a great company (I lump them in with Microsoft) because of the corpo bullshit they've tried to pull but angry gamers made them back down. Their insecure PSN and constant breeches+down time that I was reading about made me real nervous to even consider them as well. You had to make a change and this was your choice because there are so few console makers to choose from.

  • If I am forced to use Windows 11, then I will begrudgingly do so (my workplace has a PC with Windows 11 installed and it's so manky). The only other place where I tolerate it is on my Xbox Series S (which might be replaced completely with a Steam Machine). The only reason why I tolerate it on my Xbox is because installing a distro would be difficult and not have any significant payoff as most distros are meant for full on PCs. With Microsoft growing to become the shittiest they can become, I am beginning to not be able to stomach the notion of even having a Microsoft account. I will deadass throw away hundreds of dollars of investment in Xbox if it means being free of Microsoft in my daily life.

Otherwise, I use Linux, have it installed on every computer that I can, also make use of Android and Open Source tools when needed in order to avoid any of their products whenever possible. I am currently transitioning as many accounts out of Outlook as possible. For the time when I choose the nuclear option.

  • Yeah, I used to be the pleased Pixel owner that got fast updates, until one burned me. My device wasn't bricked, but it was dizzy as fuck post update. Google later fixed the issues it caused, but, I stopped jumping on updates until at least a month passed by. The same with Windows, and occasionally I will pass on an immediate update on Linux (most distros I use are solid). Apple had their fair share of stinkers though...I lived through a few of them. It wasn't fun, as Apple has absolute control over their iOS software and still failed to make a viable update in many cases. That's what made me more patient and wait until my device was literally begging me to update.

Now that I have my grubby hands on Android 16 on the Galaxy 25 FE, I can be absolutely patient for updates going forward. Fast updates do mean more mistakes are going to be implemented; some of which can kill your mobile computer.

  • I think Samsung's reasoning is sound, Google sometimes like to play loosey-goosey and break things with updates. I prefer that Samsung tests all Google Play updates before deploying them for their various models. It's great having a filter against potentially stinky updates that break things. We aren't on Arch, no need to move too blazingly fast (unless there is a problem that requires urgent patching).

  • Yuck, I only have a Gmail account because of Android and just two critical accounts. Thankfully, all the toggles that turn off AI are still toggled off. Google is still trying to tempt me with Gemini, but, they can keep their trash as I don't need it!

  • Yes, LLMs were up-jumped to "AI" by techbros that wanted to create the next big scam. No surprise there, as that's what they always do; leaving someone else holding the bag before everything crashes and loses value. Anyway, I wouldn't specifically trust their 80% number, because they could've massaged the numbers or had real people intervene when their LLM was about dispense a bad prescription double whammy. Even with a limited list of allowed medications, the programming of LLMs allows for 'hallucinations' and breaking the supposed safety rails that are built into the code.

Easily blowing out any guardrails to continue engagement and output. Even OTC drugs can be dangerous when taken for too long or at too high of a dose. You can have adverse reactions with other OTC drugs and nutritional supplements (like vitamin/mineral tablets). A LLM would never be able to account for that...

I'd assume that a lawsuit will be coming up eventually as LLMs used for a purpose they were never meant for...Leads to such avoidable choices! Like the current lawsuits and cases where LLM chatbots isolated and talked suicidal people into committing suicide without seeking help. All for the lifetime engagement!

I can only hope all these corporations pushing LLM powered services and invasive programs get fucked financially and can't continue operating. 🤬

  • Oh, I can't see this going well...Gassed up LLMs are going to confidently prescribe deadly medicinal cocktails, as it will hallucinate...Since it's artificially incompetent by design! Think of the data breaches and hacks because LLMs are notably insecure and vulnerable to simple and brute force attacks. There's a big storm coming for Utah and they aren't prepared for all that sloppy LLM nonsense.

  • That would make sense, as I remembered reading about how CentOS and Fedora are truly similar due to being created by Red Hat, they took the advantages of CentOS and inserted them into Fedora (which is why I seem to get Fedora, while also not understanding Fedora). Given your range of experience, I can see why you're honestly most comfortable with Arch and dealing with complex things.

I agree with the advantage of Ubuntu/Linux Mint/Debian: it's an ubiquitous install which means troubleshooting naturally gets easier over time, because so many document problems and solutions are created for the issues any distro might face over time. The fact that YouTubers are using and discussing both Bazzite and CachyOS means a similar flow of users will eventually create a critical mass of troubleshooting resources. As well as significant developer interest which Valve got the ball rolling on because of their Proton Compatibility Layer (which is open source) that makes gaming on Linux much easier!

I've never used Ubuntu as a server, so I confess ignorance on that count. I will take your word on it.

As for CLI I find that manpages/tutorials are further demystifying commands and the reasons for using them are getting through even my thick skull. Learning how to inquire about specific programs CLI commands is massively helpful. As the options are gradually being expanded upon (in a natural way). I don't feel as lost as I did when in my first few years of actively using Linux (still do get lost as a goose on the loose).

I like being able to chain commands that make sense together in order to make interacting with the Terminal easier. I am learning the basics before getting really fancy, like moving files (still prefer the GUI for that). I do find the CLI amazing for actually searching my whole computer, as it's really fast and doesn't skimp on the richness of information. The ability to refine searches even further is a dream feature. However, GUI is getting better everyday, and is starting to be comparable to Terminal system searches. Still never use the Terminal for stitching together log reports about complex issues. I am better suited to reading the printed logs in the application (unless it's a log which requires CLI to access, then I cave). As a lot of my system upkeep is done via GUIs.

Heh, I do admit I feel like a hacker, that should be listening to Velvet Acid Christ and wear concealing clothing while working with the Terminal and typing commands. Especially on Debian, because it's often necessary to do certain things. However, I've not had to do anything meaningfully complex on Debian, as it just works. Debian 13 (Trixie) has been quite good for the near 9 months that its been installed on my laptop.

  • Without a doubt, I'd expect both of our experiences to be absolutely opposing. As we are different in terms of skill, I am more of a basic user (who can do troubleshooting with guides and a lot of log reading), configure and install stuff, decently comfortable with the terminal but prefer GUIs and automated installs with sane defaults. You seem to be the type of user who can commands Arch with ease, can get in the reeds and figure stuff out (due to your absolute comfort with Arch and it's way of doing things). I don't mean to throw too much shade at Arch, but, I had to poke a bit of fun.

Given Ubuntu has been my go-to for years, I know where to find logs, query via the terminal for stuff that I want to figure out...Or use the GUI for a quite rummage through the logs to see if any problems are happening on the system...Honestly, I agree with you there is little difference between Arch and Ubuntu, save for the style. As Arch is a move fast kind of rolling release, while Ubuntu is slower and they don't often push updates that require manual intervention. You can in fact use Arch tutorials to help with Ubuntu problems, as everything that is in Ubuntu is derived from Arch's breakneck development. It tricks down at a gradual (some might say glacial) pace.

Ultimately, Linux is about finding your comfort zone and learning to stay within (or expand your knowledge over time). As it is useful for troubleshooting and fixing the occasional issue. Bazzite is the right speed for me on my Gaming Desktop and Ubuntu would be a better fit for my laptop which I use solely for productivity.

However, I like to explore Linux distros and learn how to reasonably thrive within them, but Arch seems to be the last barrier that I cannot overcome. Or simply my current system configuration simply incompatible with Arch (but not any other distro).

  • Well that's fucking refreshing, now that Dell has dropped that truth bomb, hopefully other companies follow suit! As Dell as seen the race to the bottom that a lot of tech firms that drank the Koolaid are beginning to engage with. Making a business decision not to market based on AI and instead functional computers with the option, is much better! Even better if they start working with Linux (as I know you can get some of their PCs with a Linux distro installed instead of the Microslop OS).

  • I just can't stand watching trash videos, so I didn't click. So I guessed, and was right regardless!

  • The most boring post, worse the image looks like it was AI generated as one breast is inflated while the other looks flat. A typical thing that happens with AI-generated images. 😂

  • They never will give us a convincing reason for those firings; which is why we shouldn't buy Rockstar Games and support the devs if they set up Go Fund Mes!

  • I feel you should be a fiction writer because while you are chatting absolute shit, you're at least creative about it. I hope you come back to reality one day...Good luck, person on the web!

  • It's not a slur, it's an insult! I don't understand how people get this confused or purposefully attempt to conflate the terms, diluting their power by watering down the meaning of slurs. Slurs do serious harm to minority, racial, and ethnic groups! A MACHINE or SOFTWARE is not a vulnerable person/group that can be harmed by a WORD (a slur is also a dog whistle for other bigots), machines/software are merely tools without soul or mind. Often AI Sympathizers/Hope-Posters try to conflate slur with insult, diluting the ability for people to rightfully call out AI nonsense and mocking the very notion of "AI" which is absolute nonsense.

  • ROFL Pathetic, Microslop pushing this hard and pathetically to get people generating more slop is so sad. The promises they couldn't keep are catching up with them, any sane company would've given up by now. Sadly, a core group in Microsoft Execs have been prompt injected with AI hope-posting and might never recover. Remember everyone, never talk to computers, not even once!
