  • There are a variety of genocidal, nationalist ideologies though. They're not all Nazis.

I don't think you can really separate Nazism from antisemitism. It's a core part of the ideology. So I don't find this label to be accurate.

Fascist, sure, since that's a broader category that includes multiple iterations of the same basic approach to genocidal authoritarianism.

  • Europe realizing just how hungry this particular leopard is...

  • Also our bridges are subjected to the insane forces of truck freight transportation. Who know how long they would last otherwise.

  • Fair, there are some slight differences. I just am annoyed by the auth-left obsession with nationalism. To the extent that they seem to care more for national sovereignty than real autonomy and liberation. And this focus on imperialism as the ultimate evil above similar forms of nationalist oppression is part of that dynamic.

  • Beautiful area. I climbed Mt Morrison once and it's spectacular up there. Not an easy climb though, at least for me.

  • That wouldn't really address my objection. My point is that some imperialism can be entirely internal to the artificial boundaries of nation-states as defined by the global ruling class. In fact I would say this is nearly universal, especially within more geographically large and diverse nations.

Like is the US's exploitation of Mexican citizens within its borders categorically different than the exploitation of Mexican citizens outside of its borders? Sure, the details differ. But I think the overall dynamic is essentially the same.

  • I feel like this inclusion of the concept of nations in this definition makes it somewhat artificial. Who defines what's a different nation? The powers that be who are engaging in imperialism, usually. Additionally, would this actions be somehow better if directed against people of the same nation? I think not.

The nationalist brain-rot goes deep in our society and it's easy to fail to question it.

  • What about, y'know, doing the actual research you're supposed to be writing about?

  • I honestly don't see how he can be convicted. Imperfect as they are, the courts have so far been the most resistant to magafication. I don't know where he would find a kangaroo court on that level.

  • I mean they launched an entire initiative to arrest political groups they don't like based on the backlash. A bit too early to say it had no effect.

  • Well... kind of. I think the broader social structures are more worthy of criticism here than their individual decisions about their bodies.

Stop worshipping celebrities and this is no longer an issue.

  • How 'bout people should do whatever they want with their bodies and either way it's nunya business?!

  • More like 4000.

How much of the world has not been subject to one empire or another during the historical period? I'd reckon not much...

  • Unfortunately, I expect the cost for the Venezuelan people will be far higher.

  • I'm not sure I agree this is the worse option. If the vehicle lane is away from the curb, they will have to cross into the cycle lane to park, which will be dangerous. As a frequent cyclist, I'd rather have control of entering the vehicle lane when it's safe rather than having inattentive vehicle drivers entering my lane all the time. Additionally, drivers are far more used to watching out when turning left than right, so having cyclists to the left may be safer at intersections.

Long-term it will be best to have raised cycle paths at sidewalk level but this may not be within the budget for the time being.

Regarding Mamdani I kind of doubt he'll implement this but the more publicity and pressure in favor of it, the more likely that will be. A lot of leftists seem very naive in believing politicians can do anything they want, but in reality they are at best merely negotiating concessions from the existing powers. This means they will have to choose some reforms to give up on. But public campaigns both push them to and empower them to make bigger changes, so this is the best lever of influence we have--even stronger than voting, imo.

The NYPD is very politically powerful so my assumption is he decided that was not a fight he could win and other priorities were more important. But who knows, we'll have to see how he governs to draw firmer conclusions about this.

  • Most people desire more liberation than merely not being a slave. This is a very unserious reply.

  • A lot of people here don't believe private ownership should give you such dictatorial powers over others. I personally agree with this view.

  • Real democracy is neither of these things.
