  • Obvious to some maybe but the NYT publishing a piece about the imperial boomerang seems somewhat significant. It feels like more and more liberals are being radicalized by this administration.

  • Still no I'm afraid.

  • To be honest I can't really even tell from the footage, it's too grainy. The only reason I feel somewhat confident he puts his body on the car is the footage shows his upper body leaning towards the vehicle at such an angle I can't see how we would remain upright without support. But yeah it's totally possible it's just his hands/arms bracing him. But this explains how his feet can be clear in the closer video where he's obscured by the other criminal but his body so can be close in the other angles.

  • Ah the judgmental stare. Reminds me of the good old days. People always used to ask me if I was warlizard from the warlizard gaming forums.

    But no I'm not.

  • I think it's more accurate to say he hit the car. He basically throws his upper body onto the hood before impact. Or at least that's how it appears, it's very grainy.

  • Weak.

  • I know I used the word crime above but I don't consider most laws morally legitimate so whether it was a crime or not is barely relevant.

I don't think it's wrong to describe someone who was killed by another person as a victim. Even if they were guilty of horrible crimes.

This is a conversation I've had several times. I think it's very strange that so many leftists claim to want to dismantle our justice system but endorse the same punitive logic behind it. Maybe it was necessary to kill Ashlee Babbitt, frankly, I don't know all the details. But she was killed by the police and that makes her a victim in my mind nonetheless. Killing someone is always a bad thing. Sometimes it's just the least bad thing you can do.

  • Clearly not. That's why I said it was stupid.

  • It's 2026, you can't just not be authoritarian. If you don't pick some kind of tyrant to worship then you'd have to think for yourself and that's just too difficult.

  • Why not?

  • I agree with you but I don't think this article is a good faith effort to report on the complicated situation there. You can tell because they're shedding crocodile tears over armed enforcers of the state being fought against in legitimate community defense. Actions they would be celebrating in other countries. That's all I'm saying.

  • I understand that. They still killed her. Being upset about that is a normal human response regardless of her crimes.

  • I mean this is stupid but there's way more stupid forms of enlightened centrism. Like if we're just mourning victims of police violence, even if they're reactionary assholes I think that's a net positive.

  • Glad the unions are getting involved but what's this weak ass shit about it being one day? The whole point of a strike is you do it until they negotiate and meet your demands. One day won't achieve much.

But to be clear everyone should participate, it's better than nothing. We should get other states to participate too.

  • It's mass protests affecting the whole country. There will always be some bad actors.

Likewise, Israel and the US should fuck off but their actions do not change the legitimacy of people's demands and their struggle for liberation. This article is at least as one-sided as the coverage it is criticizing.

  • Won't someone please think of the poor defenseless cops? 😢

  • First, contact as many people as you can, especially local ICE watch orgs. A lot have hotlines which you may be able to find with a web search. Next start recording. Delay as long as possible. Ask for a warrant, stay calm and maybe try to negotiate as a stall tactic. This will hopefully give community members time to arrive and record or hopefully apply pressure if they are brave and numerous enough. It is possible to intimidate and drive them back with enough numbers.

All else fails at this point I would not fight back and allow yourself to be arrested. Most citizens being arrested right now are being released. The courts are slow but still upholding the law for now. If you are not a citizen then your options might not be as good. Fighting back is likely to get you injured or killed but if you have an escape route it could be worthwhile, especially if you can escape in areas where motor vehicles can't go. Their level of fitness is generally low so they can't give chase for long, and as long as you're not high profile you might be safe once you get away, though you'll likely need to lie low somewhere.

If you're asking what to do about the current political situation in a broader sense then I have different answers.

  • Fuck no.

  • Just because the US doesn't legally consider it a military occupation doesn't make it not one. But yeah I can see why they might not want to put that in the headline.
