  • Sadly, part of the reality right now is, that there is no perfect swap-in replacement for what Starlink is being used for,

    100% agree on that but, like you said, I wanted to see a more... encouraging way of saying it. This sounds a bit too much like an already failed effort. Yesterday morning, I was reading the latest US demands on Ukraine (imho, we should all closely read them in order to understand what the USA has now turned into and what kind of treatment we can expect from them in the (near) future) and I think we really should not let Ukraine down at the time they have to face Putin's Russia and now also have to face the new bully on the block, Trump's USA—which won't be kind with them the moment they realize they may not get all what they asked from Ukraine (and hopefully they won't get it). Like, not kind at all.

  • "relatively fast" is not what I wanted to read. It should be done as fast as possible. If in order to keep its ability to communicate efficiently Ukraine is forced to accept the latest delirious US demands, it's the entire EU that will lose. Big time.

  • I don't like the law to make an example out of anyone, I would rather see the law being effective and equally applied to all.

    Also, these kind of regulations are precisely one of the things Trump and his billionaire bosses are trying to get rid of.

    -dépendre d’applis android/AOSP : j’estime que lineage, eelo, graphene, se basent tous sur AOSP. N’oublions pas qu’AOSP est le projet linux (et pas une distro, elle fait tout à l’envers d’une distro) de Google, par GOogle, pour Google. Voyez les avertissements adblocks sur youtube, mes chéris? Voyez l’expérience gmail qui se restreint, mes amis? Voyez les résultats de recherche google qui se perturbent, mes petits? N’imaginez pas un seul instant qu’au nom du logiciel libre, Android, AOSP, graphene/eelo/lineage n’y échapperont pas : ils sont tous dans le même panier. Si demain Google impose B au lieu de A à android, alors tous sans exception ne pourront faire autrement.

    C'est pour ça que mon téléphone reste iOS même si j'aime pas comment il se bordélise d'une mise à jour majeure à la suivante:

    1. Je ne veux plus rien qu soit dépendant de Google. Et si possible des autres GAFAM, mais Google est en tête de ma liste personelle.
    2. Tant qu'à avoir de moins en moins de choix et de contrôle, je préfère iOS car... j'y suis habitué ;)

    Par contre, le téléphone de ma moitié tournait sous e/OS/ (acheté préinstallé sur leur boutique) et c'était très impressionnant. Pour un modèle d'entrée de gamme, il tournait super bien, fluide et tout et toutes les apps dont elle avaiot besoin étaient dispos... Sauf uen certaine app spécifique à sa boite récemment, ou plutôt à un important client de sa boite... Du coup, elle est maintenant comme moi, chez Apple.

    On verra on où en sera du choix des téléphones quand nous devrons changer (dans le plus d'années possible, vu qu'on essaye de produire le moins de déchets y compris éléctronqiues). Si la seule alternative à iOS est un android contrôlé par Google, je vais peut-être voir comment revenir sur un dumbphone... s'ils existent encore à ce moment là.

    Je ne connais pas, mais je suis sur iOS (et comme je refuse de changer trop souvent de téléphone, j'espère bien y rester pour encore 5 ans, plus si possible)

  • J’ai commencé ma migration des GAFAM il y a environ 2 ans en quittant Windows pour Linux.

    C'était Apple, dans mon cas mais c'est la meilleure décision que je pouvais prendre. Zéro regret, même s'il y a quelques zones de frictions ;)

    J'utilise plus de streaming de music (je suis 100% revenu à la musique 'locale', CD ou fichiers), mais j'étais SPotify puis Apple Music. J'avais YT Music inclut avec YT Premium mais je le prenais que pour les vidéos.

    WhatsApp et co:

    J'utilise aucune messagerie sur mon téléphone... Un peu radical j'en ai peur mais je doute que je changerai un jour d'avis sur la question. Mon téléphone me sert uniquement pour la poignée d'apps que je suis obligé d'utiliser (banques, sécurité,...) et pour... téléphoner. Pour te dire, même l'email je l'ai viré :p

    Google Drive & co: J’ai commencé à regarder Cozy, une alternative française qui propose pas mal de services et ça a l’air un peu porté par l’État donc plutôt bon point.

    Je ne connais pas Cozy, je pense avoir trouvé tout ce dont j'ai besoin mais je vais quand même aller jeter un oeil, merci. Parce que Cocorico, quand même ;)

    Mail: Pas encore commencé mais c’est la galère pour faire tout en local de ce que je comprends,

    J'avais envisagé l'option mais n'étant pas une xpert et devant la complexité (surtout du point de vue de la sécruité), j'ai vite laissé tombé. Infomaniak héberge mes mails pour pas cher du tout (gratos, si on reste sur leur généreuse offre gratuite: 20 Go de stockage mail)et ils font du bon boulot.

    Le problème ne vient pas que de Google, mais des GAFAM combinés

    Oui, pour moi la première étape (entamée en 2015) a été de quitter Apple (dont je suis utilisateur, j'ai toujours un iPhone, depuis le début des années 80...). Le passage GNU/Linux s'est très bien passé, mais pas sans heurts. Je n'ai aucun regret, je dois dire... sauf de pas avoir tenté la chjose encore plus tôt.

    Infomaniak gros +1, j’ai commencé à utiliser leurs services via leur Cloud il y a… 4 mois ? Et je switche doucement sur leur suite.

    Pour l'instant, je suis vraiment impressionné. C'est parfois un peu bordélique mais c'est pas la fin du monde et ça marche vraiment bien je trouve. J'espère juste qu'ils vont se décider à aussi proposer au moins un dossier spécifique qui sera réellement complètement chiffré, histoire que je puisse stocker sur leur cloud des documents plus sensibles. Et puis, j'aime bien leur approche (c'est pour ça que j'ai pris une formule payante, parce qu'en rélaité j'ai déjà plus que ce dont j'ai besoin en stockage cloud, entièrement chiffré, chez Filen.io)

    HereWoGo en remplacement de Maps/Waze, mais tu n’as pas la vue satellite. Mapy semble prendre de l’ampleur aussi mais je crois que c’est encore très Europe de l’Est.

    Youtube, si tu veux vraiment, opte pour ReVanced.

    J'avais commencé ma cure en passant par Freetube (si je me souviens bien du nom), ce qui est chouette c'est qu'il y a plusieurs façons de s'y mettre (y compris chercher sur Odysee si nos créateurs n'y sont pas également. Mais bon, là j'ai vraiment décidé de réduire le temps que je per... passais sur YT ;)

    Je ne connaisais pas panoramax. J'ame bcp l'idée, mais comme je disais j'ai cessé de faire des photos en rue (en autres pour des questions de droits à l'image: pas temps l'usage qui en serai fait que l'hostilité corissant des personnes quand elles voient un quidam prendre des photos)... Je devrais peut-être proposer une version 'dessins' ;)

    J'ai essay énextcloud, que l'hébergeur de mes sites web propose mais c'est trop... technique pour moi: rien que de réussir à le configurer c'était pas évident, alors j'ai pas insisté (mais bon, c'est surtout que je suis pas le plus doué dans ce domaine ;)

    It's not sad, it's how a democracy is supposed to be working imho. A majority of the UK voted for the Brexit, which means that the UK as a whole voted for it and then acted accordingly. Sure, you were many to oppose it. Still the vote was made and no matter how stupid it was, that was the result for the entire country. A bit like many here in France were against re-electing Macron as our President (note that I don't say I was for nor against him being re-elected) but since he has been re-elected by a majority of the voters he his the President of the entire French Republic and of all of us, he is not the President of just the ones that voted for him ;)

    I was part of the 48.1% who voted remain. How does the UK feel about Brexit now? Myself, and everyone I know is unhappy that it happened.

    The morning I heard the results I had to check with friends over the channel if all our media had all been hacked by russian-hackers because I could not believe such a thing had indeed happened. That was so, well...

    fucking idiots.

  • I wonder how the UK feel about Brexit now that we've all entered that you-can-all-go-funk-yourself age (soon to be called a post-NATO era, I suppose) the USA just inaugurated with their new orange king (Kong)?

    It's a serious question. Like I also wonder how the EU would feel about welcoming back the UK?

    As a EU citizen, even though they acted like huge dicks (to keep it polite) and knowing they often are an utter pain in the ass to work and to live with, I would support them coming back in the Union. But that's just me and, unlike that Trump guy and its cheese-headed buffoon, I don't think I should rule a country like if I owned it, let alone 27 countries. And then, more than a few countries in the EU may not be that excited at the idea of the UK coming back, with their constant demands... because they themselves have made it real easy to not be happy about them being back.

    I suppose signing military deals (and hopefully closer collaboration, training and other stuff armies do) would be the obvious thing to do, right now.

    PS: I also do wonder how the assholes that led them into this shitty situation are doing?

  • I quit GitHub the day Microsoft bought it. I'm not a dev and I was barely using it but still I did not like that change. Now, I'm using codeberg.org which is more then enough for my needs.

    If you value any data, you should already have backups (plural), right? So, if you decide to switch OS you don't need to worry about your data since you have backups (plural). Hint: if you don't do backups already, start now with or without OS switch.

    If i delete google play services, will my phone not work correctly?

    Depends what you do with it. What OS you use. My spouse is using /e/OS and she has access to all the apps she needs, but I reckon you probably don't use the same app as we do (we're both 50+) ;)

    I have been replacing my apps with open source apps, is that helpful?

    Depends. It's probably a good idea but if you use open source apps to access and use non-privacy respecting services, well, they won't help much.

    What vpn should i use? I have malewarebytes.

    One you trust. I use Mullvad and Proton. Both are paid for.
