  • I saw a director talking about this. She said they call it second screen content. Apparently they've done research that shows people are looking at their phones, lose the plot, and then shut it off.

    I feel like the solution is movies that aren't shit and cause people to get bored enough to grab the phone. Making it repetitive seems like a way to guarantee people will stop paying attention in the first place.

  • I suspect that eBay changed how combined shipping works. Either they disabled it completely or made it harder to enable. Surely it allows them to make more money because almost everyone selling on eBay buys their postage through eBay (at least in the US).

    I just bought a bunch of underwear on eBay because the ones I like were discontinued. I found several sellers that had multiple packs, but none that had combined shipping. It was actually cheaper to buy 1 pack from 3 different sellers and pay 3 shipping fees than buy 3 packs from 1.

  • I shop less at Trader Joes despite it being better than the alternative grocers because they don't have a self-checkout aisle and I don't know what to say to the cashier.

    I avoid Trader Joe's for a similar reason. The cashiers are supposed to be over the top friendly and it makes me feel awkward because in my mind I'm thinking about how much I would hate having to do that. Whenever someone is forced to be nice to me it feels fake even if it isn't.

    But I'm not sure if every single incident with the keywords, penis, vagina, rtc is listed in these articles tho. IIRC previous versions of this were longer, so maybe the author chooses ones they find more interesting/shocking

  • I have difficulty understanding that level of horniness.

    I had a coworker who spent 90% of his time trying to sleep with people. Just constantly trying to do the apps, chatting random people up, dates 5 nights a week. He was also juggling a wife and 100's of lies that allowed him to be doing 5 dates a week and midday hookups with people who don't know about the other people.

    Obviously scumbag shit, but also it seems so exhausting and pointless. Like you do all that and all you get are some orgasms?

  • I can vouch for AirVPN. Made the switch when my PIA sub finally ran out. Definitely don't use PIA, it's an Israeli company.

    It was a seamless switch for me, but I can't vouch for any of their client software since I only use binhex-QBittorrentVPN.

  • I did a bunch of these things some months back and mostly got scammed. Mostly because of work not getting approved, bugs and minimum payouts.

    In the past I did focus groups with a company that paid pretty good money, but you have to fill out unpaid surveys to get picked for the groups. The company was 20/20 panel.

    One trick to any of those kinds of market research things is to game the demographics. Make up your demographics to be the kind of person you think wouldn't be easy to get market research on. I always made sure to pretend I was employed in a high paid job since I figured they probably have a hard time getting people who make $100k to do a focus group for $500. If you lie, write down the lies because they would ask questions to see if you lied when they call to schedule the group.

  • I use Linux for my home server, but I haven't been able to make it work as a desktop, despite many tries.

    Just too much fiddling getting all my hardware and software working right and there's always been something I can't get right. If I had more time I could surely get a system to be useable for most tasks, but I'd always still need a windows machine for some stuff. So it hasn't made the work worth the effort for me.

  • I have a 15 year gap and despite trying various explanations for that gap, I don't seem to get considered for anything. Tried putting that I ran my own business, and tried saying I was primary caregiver to my child. I even applied to a nonprofit that helps people with mental illness and gave the honest answer that I wasn't working because of my own mental illness. Even retail jobs that seem to actually be hiring never give me a call back.

    I've been doing gigwork which is working pretty good for me, but I fear it's only making my problem worse in the long run because it's not really a job, so my gap is getting longer.
