Yes, they were peasants and before Alexander II's reforms, they had a compulsory 25 year service. It wasn't something they chose because they didn't want to work at Wal-Mart. They were made to to do it on top of living a life of back-breaking labor. Even when the compulsory service was reduced to 15 years and opened up to all classes, the stratification remained. Careerism for peasants didn't exist either. Peasants didn't join because it looked good on a resume and was a chance to escape their lot in life. Even after going to war they were forced to work the land. No free breakfast at Denny's once a year. No Dodge Charger.
It's not though because plenty of normal human people were in these threads and did not become unhinged. And those people had way more upvotes and comments than anyone defending a war criminal. The fact is that most of Hexbear never supported Platner. You can also see the comment that got Wheezing removed: https://hexbear.net/post/6498662/6606093. It was slapfighting a mod and not because they were standing against imperialism or Nazis.
These people are also making stuff up about the site as a whole. They are consciously and purposefully engaging in confirmation bias. It's in the very thread I just linked. As soon as they're confronted with evidence that most of Hexbear agrees with them, they retreat into the position of "well why didn't you ban the people in this thread."
SwitchyWitchy backed down and deleted/edited her post to say it was bad. Wheezing kept posting through, not satisfied without a genuflection to his ego.
mkultra was arguing about letting former soliders or cops into orgs not really specifically about Platner.
UmbraEvi asked a question but didn't pursue any further.
btbt said they were disappointed but didn't push back on any dunking or criticism.
CyborgMarx was silenced for being uncivil while pushing back against Wheezing, this was before Wheezing was banned. Some of their posts were also removed.
So the two people who could be said to be defending Platner either backed down or were removed from the discussion. Wheezing was banned later for calling a mod a thumb. Everyone else went along with Wheezing.
Yet Wheezing and now several others are claiming Hexbear supports Platner along with social fascism. They're just telling everyone, in the very thread that proves them wrong, that the site is supporting Nazis and social fascism. These people claim to be about sober criticism but they exercise none whatsoever in their vendettas. They are not here to fight imperialism or Zionism, they are here to practice their loathing under the cover of "being correct all the time". And you will find yourself to be a punching bag for their personal grievances at some point.
They could petition the site to see if CyborgMarx or SwitchyWitchy should be banned but they didn't. Instead they decided to call all of us supporters of fascism. They ask for us to have concern for their use of rudeness and frank discussion but when it's aimed back at them, then they become "unhinged" and that's supposed to be okay. Mods leave up dozens or hundreds of comments criticizing social fascism and rightfully calling out bullshit but then they're also such ardent defenders of it that they ban one person every few months over it.
Hexbear, you are not being overtaken by social fascism. You are on the internet which is full of miserable assholes who want to make everyone else miserable too. It's a format problem not a ideological one.
I think it's more of a minority of lazy people who only read headlines and vibe their way through being a leftist, which is bad, plus a group of sanctimonious pricks who only come to this site for the opportunity to catch someone sleeping. The usual suspects do fuck all to improve anything but complain about mods and tell us how much everyone else, even those who agree with them in the struggle sessions, are complicit in fascism.
Our banned comrade immediately jumped to accusations of imperialism when questioning why people disliked Platner. The same user agreed with Wheezing after the explanation. So you're ignorant to electoralism in Maine you're a social fascist. If you ask a question, get answers, and agree with Wheezing, no backtrack on the accusations: https://hexbear.net/post/6448731?sort=Top
Then in this thread you have 2 people pushing back and making excuses but somehow "most of Hexbear" is the issue. The mods need to do purges. If the mods don't do purges they're complicit and need to be purged. Like clearly some people hate being here but put up with it because there's no better place to go. Their idea is just to "agitate" under the guise of combating liberalism in the hopes they can get the mods to step down and hand over the site to them.
It's an ongoing problem with AWS that has happened before and will happen again. The reason why it seems bigger is that more companies than ever have AWS services and social media blows everything up into grand historical events. It's simply the result of an old system that has experienced a lot of growth and changes which are held together with duct tape, paperclips, and chewing gum. The obvious fixes are too expensive and slower than just putting up with waiting for the DNS caches to clear and resolve over the course of several days. Basically, the fault lies with privatization and all the "optimization" that comes with system design under capitalism.
I can't see him not knowing what a totenkopf is. I could (but I won't) buy a misunderstanding about a black sun if he was some neo-Pagan dork (and even then I'm Doakes on those people). However the death's head is like the second most recognizable Nazi symbol. It's on their hats. It's on their belts. You can go to any gun show in the US and find at least one booth selling this shit. The guy is older than me so there's no excuse that he's just an unformed zoomer who fell for a meme. It's also not like the tattoo shop in Croatia only had that symbol either. When he was flipping through the little book he definitely saw swastikas and iron eagles and runes.
Plus, if you really want a based socialist to run for that seat, you can find someone without a Nazi tattoo. What is the argument? We have to give him the shadow of a doubt because he's the only choice? Come on.
