  • I still disagree that we are past the point of no return... we literally already voted Trump out of office once when he was pulling similar shit in his first term. In some ways he's gone farther but, again, in a country with free and fair elections, elections are your recourse not political violence.

Explain to me how you think killing Kirk is a good thing for the country. Like, explain what will happen following his death that somehow leads to fascism being defeated in America.

  • That is NOT what Kirk said for the record, he said it was a bad thing but the lesser of two evils.

  • Fair enough I guess, although keep in mind that if you think present day-America has crossed the Rubicon, you would also have said "welp democracy has failed we have to kill the political opposition" about 20 times throughout American history, and been wrong on all but 1 occasion.

  • Do you think you can end terrorism by killing all the terrorists? Or win the war on drugs by killing all the drug dealers? What makes you think the fight against fascism is any different? We still live in a democratic society. The "fascists" were elected by the majority of the American people, so either the majority of politically active Americans (and Europeans) are fascists or you are being hyperbolic with your language. If elections are suspended, I think there is no alternative to political violence. Until that happens, we should work to unwind Trump and his political movement through nonviolent means.

Also, fascists aren't scared they are angry. You think Trump is gonna get scared and roll back his policies? No, they are going to double down on everything. This perfectly fits his narrative that force is needed to take America back from the radical left.

  • People can have different political views than you- even views you know are wrong and abhorrent- and still be good people. In fact, in today's political and social media environment its remarkably easy to end up being radicalized one way or another. I know you're not asking for advice but I think it's worth expressing to your mom that you love her regardless of politics. You don't have to agree with her views or even accept them, but I don't think it's worth damaging your relationship with her over a political disagreement.

  • Charlie Kirk was not a war criminal. Saying callous things about shooting victims and being a MAGA supporter should not be punished with death.

  • Lol clearly a joke

  • Before 1941? I assume you mean before 1939?

I don't think there's any equivalence in saying "if you invade Poland we are going to declare war on you" and then doing so (as France and Britain did) and literally teaming up with Hitler to invade Poland (as the Soviet Union did).

Appeasement was a weak strategy but the idea was less that war needed to be avoided at all costs and more that war with Hitler was inevitable but western Europe needed to buy a few months to try to catch up in rearmament. They were just a few months away from fighting the battle of Britain with biplanes.

  • Haha that name rang a bell that was one of the first people I ever blocked on Lemmy :)

  • Lemmy recreating the free market haha

  • I'll be honest I haven't delved too deep into his music but his cover of Bulls on Parade goes hard

  • Denzel Curry maybe?

  • So your claim that they are still funded and influenced by the British government is completely unsubstantiated got it.

  • "You have insufficient funds available on your payment method for an additional flip."

  • Nah it works out the exact same. Say you make $10 every time you sell a $100 product. That means you have a 50/50 chance of either gaining $110 or losing $90. 110*0.5 + (-90)*0.5 = $10.

  • They are my primary news source. I think they are extremely trustworthy and overall pretty unbiased. I sense a sort of contempt towards Donald Trump that bleeds through even in their very dry reporting style. I appreciate how non-sensationalized their stories are.

  • Do you have any evidence they continue to be funded and directed by the British government? They were literally partnered with TASS until 2022...

  • Idk about that. For some custom built things it might be a better manufacturing method than setting up a production line to cast the piece or forge or whatever. But outside of some really weird screws there are always going to be extremely competitively priced screws of almost every imaginable type. It's hard to imagine you're gonna beat that with 3d printing, given you can just buy the screws you need for not much more per pound than the metal its made from.

  • I'd just like to comment that keeping your own chickens is not economical unless you are basically willing to convert your yard into a chicken farm and slaughter your chickens once they stop laying eggs after a couple years, and even then its gonna take you a while to recoup (ha) the cost off the chicken coop, feed, etc, not to mention the time it takes to take care of them. What you're really paying for with the cost of $1 (or really, 50 cents or less for most people) an egg is the convenience of eggs in the quantity you want them, with guaranteed quality, whenever you want them. Same with buying screws from the hardware store.
